This kind of pictures makes me doubt if I should still get a SLR after all. I just hate the idea of carrying a heavy camera whole day long. I like traveling light… But the super wide angle pictures really look amazing.

Would any initial level SLR work this great?
Any thoughts I should consider when getting one?

I really like to travel light also and consider carrying a camera around a PIA. One time up on the Elk I had to leave it on the bank as I fought a fish across the river … lol. I do however think you can come up with a system that will suit your needs. In the summer, I carry a simms roll top hip bag that has survived a couple of quick dunks. In the winter I just keep the camera around my neck and rest it inside my waders, its not to bad.

If your not into a slr you could always start with a water proof point and shoot. That is all I usually carry when I’m in the mood to just fish. I feel like I have taken some pretty nice shots with my pentax optio and actually plan on getting the newer 10mp model. If only they had a raw option. 🙂

There are threads in the photography section of the board with some really good advise on choosing the right camera for you. Plus, I’m sure there are guys on the board way more qualified to answer your questions about cameras. Personally, I have bought based on #1 budget and #2 look and feel (lenses).

Wow! Absolutely fantastic photos! I love the shot of the 3 bears! Great story .. Lots of bears, BIG pike, BIG ‘bows, and a plane crash! Plus, time with your son! That sounds like a hell of a trip.

Now I’m going have to compare my pics to Field and Stream to see how they differ from the fly fishing mags! [grin] Thanks for all the HUGE the compliments! The trip was a blast and the Elk is absolutely beautiful. There are only 2 parts to this trip the Elk and the John Day … I’ll try to get my John Day post together today.

Wow… Fantastic fish and great pictures. I have always wanted to make a trip for an Apache. You post is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

Your boy looks like a natural for such a small guy!

Goes without saying that all the big name rivers will be a blast.

I’ll second Nez Perce creek and the hike. I make it a point to get there every couple of years. Its one of the most enjoyable small stream places I go.

If you are going to be (or have a choice of being) there in late fall .. Hit the Big Hole. It is absolutely stunning that time of year and you may come away with a Greyling.

Thanks Zach! It was cool to meet up with someone from the board and get into a few nice fish! I’m betting Kalvin will chime in sometime. Between fishing and work, I think he’s keeping pretty busy! I got an email that said he got a very pretty cutt to hand last night. 🙂

Looks like a fantastic trip .. Thanks for sharing. Great photos. Way to go! Looks like you found the big bugs and got into some nice browns. I especially like the “huge bug” on the water shot. Your report really makes me look forward to getting up that way again, in a month or so! 🙂

in reply to: Utah Adopts High Water Mark Laws #27463

I celebrated this ruling the best way I knew how, on a section of river that I have wanted to fish since I was 14. I fished so late that the local sheriff was waiting to make sure they had not lost a fisherman.

John: I did have a copy with me!

Corey, hopefully you won’t have to find out if the landowners have heard (or care) about the change in the law!

No doubt … There are some land owners around here who are real persnickety about people on their property. So, I’m sure there will be some discussions. Hopefully the guys who are out there putting this law to the test will be congenial and good ambassadors for our sport.

Wow! Thats a ton-o-bugs! Very cool shots. I really like that first shot and these last shots really show of the numbers! might be cool to your camera right up against the window (or that red box) and see the depth of them all stacked up!
