Spent a week up north. Rained every day, fishing was non existant (couple dinkers for my efforts), even teh photography was sorely limited by the weather. Still managed some good ones (inlcuding some sweet wipeouts tubing 🙂 ) and no matter what a week in Gods country beats a week behind the desk.

Couple shots for sharing and a couple for feedback.

    Loon in the rain: ISO 800, 400mm, @f5.6 1/500th

Loon showing me how its done: ISO 400, 560mm, @f8 1/250th

    Rainbow over the Lake: ISO 400, 24mm, @f16 1/80th

More post than I would normally do…Too much?

Contemplation in the rain: ISO 50, 24mm @f18 5 seconds

Fair bit of post including a “soft focus” treatment to the boys? Does it work for you?

Need to redo this one. Oversaturated the Greens but thought to show the waterfall.
    ISO 500 (wanted a shallower DoF) 32mm f5.6 @ 1/10th

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

    I’d give both!

BTW John…when is the last time you were behind a desk? Please.

My favorite is the one of the boys sitting by the river.

Inspiring pictures, John.  Thanks for sharing.  I often take mental notes on your shots (e.g. composure, lighting) and try to recreate some of the effects in my own work.  Not very successfully, ha.

    Nicely done JB!

I think you are on to something with number 4 and 5. That is an excellent way to capture a portrait of friends and family. Beats the heck out of a muslin (sp?) background any day.

    Thanks for sharing.
