Besides, we’re basically creating content for this community by participating in the message board and I see a big fat Scott ad at the top of my page. No one’s complaining about that.

I’ll also recommend KEH. I suggested them to my brother, he bought a Canon 10D from them and it’s performed as he expected.

David beat me to it. You start getting paid when you demand to start getting paid.

Didn’t mean for the post to go the direction it did. I’ll say this, I see TIF in the same light as a punk rock zine. There are often multiple contributors and on occasion a few ads to help cover costs, but no one is in it for the money.
TIF is starting to get a good number of sponsors, but who knows what kind of rates they are getting at this point. Maybe it really isn’t enough to pay out anyone. Then again, I’m only speculating.

Besides, we’re basically creating content for this community by participating in the message board and I see a big fat Scott ad at the top of my page. No one’s complaining about that.

But how are you guys shooting when you actualy keep the sun itself in the frame?

The reason I bring this up is because in the manuals for the camera and lenses, it says to not look directly at the sun through the lens OR viewfinder.

There could possibly be eye damage and the camera manufacturers legal departments are probably making that suggestion in order to avoid possible law suits. I myself try to avoid looking at the sun and concentrate on the subject. I also shoot pretty fast and am constantly moving my camera around to get new/different compositions. That probably helps keep the sun out of the same place for very long causing more focused light. But I have had problems seeing after shooting these types of photos and often get watery eyes and have to take a break. Just be smart about it and never do anything that feels like is causing damage to your eyes. If it’s bothering you, your body is telling you to stop and take a break!
Since the shutter is closed, there shouldn’t be any concern about damaging the sensor of your camera as long as you’re not doing a long exposure.

some of the vignettes (1, 3) look very digital and not in tune with the contrast levels seen in the rest of the photo. 1,3,4,8,9,10 look very digital to me for different reasons such as contrast, sharpness, lack of grain, midtones, etc.
I’ve been wanting to add more BW to my portfolio and am having a difficult time to really get the contrast and over all look that I got with wet process B&W prints.

luckily that shot is an easy fix in photoshop!
Do you notice the lens hood helping much on such a wide angle lens? I took the hood off my 25-105 and will flag with my hand if I need to get rid of a flare. My 19-35mm Sigma lens has a small lens hood but I’ve never noticed that it actually is blocking light

Dave that one you posted looks a bit loose as a stand alone shot, but has plenty of room for logo and copy, that it would make a great cover shot without feeling cluttered.

to be honest I thought it was already gone. I’ve always bought Ectachrom from Kodak, never shot kodachrome. I guess I’ll never know what I’m missing…
