Chad SimcoxMemberwith CS2 and above you can open .jpg files in Adobe Camera Raw and process similar to how you would process a RAW file. You don’t get as many option and the file doesn’t holdup like a RAW will, but it’s great for processing them.

Chad SimcoxMemberI carry my camera in a 5L Seal Line bag and put that in the back portion of my vest, my william joseph pack or in a backpack depending on what I’m using. It’s not the best for accessing and I wouldn’t take it out while in the stream, but it works for carrying a camera. If it’s in my vest, I have to take the vest off and lay it on the ground to get the camera out.

Chad SimcoxMemberI was thinking more in terms of the fact that the contrast range is more limited than print film and the increased saturation (whether overall or specific color channels) if you choose to.

Chad SimcoxMemberA&I does the processing for the shop in my neighborhood, I’ve been pleased with their work.
Kurt, do you feel that transparency will give a look to similar to digital as far as color reproduction and contrast range?

Chad SimcoxMemberWouldn’t be surprised if people start saying “Don’t get Lebovitzed” when signing into contracts that are hard to uphold.

Chad SimcoxMemberI really dig the architecture shots. He was doing the technicolor process before it was around.

Chad SimcoxMemberColor or black and white? If going color, I’d suggest Fuji Pro 160S (I believe thats what they now call NPS160). It’s got great colors and is a good choice for landscape type shots. It has a bit softer contrast than the 160C film which will be helpful when shooting in varied lighting conditions. Rate it for 125 ASA film to give it a little extra pop in the colors.
I haven’t shot it yet, but I have a roll of Kodak Ektar that sounds promising. It’s supposed to be the finest grain pro reversal film out there. It’s a high saturation, medium contrast, ASA 100 film. For black and white, I’m all about Ilford. I love shooting FP4 or HP5 films for their beautiful grain structure. My favorite film of theirs is Delta 3200, but you likely won’t be needing that high speed of a film. FP4 is 125 speed and HP5 is 400 speed film. You’ve got a fast lens, so you probably won’t need the 400 speed film unless you shooting in early or late light.
As far as development options, you can do it yourself. It’s a pretty easy process and a much better deal if you’re going to do a lot of rolls. Film processing has gotten expensive these days!

Chad SimcoxMemberWhy canon doesn’t let the MP war go, and put one of these things out at 12-14 mp with great image quality is beyond me.
Marketing. The laymen will automatically think that higher MP number means better quality. Thats why you see point and shoot cameras at 12+ MP right now. It’s a feature that the public has grabbed onto to relate to image quality.

Chad SimcoxMemberI’ve been using the 4 in 1 this week quite a bit. Silver for sure has seen the most use. I’ve been using it for fill light when shooting mid day interviews. I did use the white diffusion to knock out the blotchiness of the light on the host’s face when shooting mid day in the trees.

Chad SimcoxMemberI use them a lot as well on video shoots. Just yesterday I picked up the Wescott 4 in 1 for a documentary shoot for next week.
White/Silver is my preference, however I like the white ones that can work as diffusion or bounce the best.

Chad SimcoxMemberGrant if you have a flash unit that is on the camera (not a built in flash), you could rotate the flash to face a near by wall that will reflect the light back onto your subject. Because the area of the wall that is reflecting the light is bigger than the small flash, the light will be softer when it falls on your subject.

In this photo, the flash is on camera and facing the wall behind the subject as opposed to facing the subject. The result is nice, soft light that mimics window light.Same goes for this shot, the light from the small flash is bounced off a wall.

That’s interesting, is there a 3 dimensional texture or more of a glaze on the paintings?

Chad SimcoxMemberCorey, one of my biggest freak out celebrity moments (I kept my cool and only freaked out on the inside). Was surprisingly when I walked into the taco shop down the street from my house and Estevan Oriol was sitting in there at a table with some other guys going over a music video shoot they had coming up! One of those Holy $#!† I’m sitting at the table next to an amazing photographer and he eats the same crappy burritos as me moments.
Funny how in my book that tops the time I literally almost walking directly into Sly Stalone on the sidewalk because I was busy checking out his car that valet had just pulled up.I love the Cohen Brothers work as well. Not to mention Roger Deakins lenses their stories so well!

Chad SimcoxMemberBob, I was just in San Francisco last week and there was an Ansel Adams/Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit at SFMOMA. It was very cool to see their work side by side. I don’t think I had seen her work in person before, and while her style has been widely emulated, there is something special about seeing her paintings up close and the amazing colors she used.
My friends wife said her stuff looked very ’80s to her… I then pointed out the date (1925) on the info card. ;DDavid, I find it interesting how Micheal’s paintings have depth and appear very flat/2 dimensional at the same time. He has a nice use of color as well.
Will, thanks for sharing. I had never seen Norman’s work before but it’s amazing, I’m watching some of his films on youtube right now. Wanda’s work looks interesting as well.

Chad SimcoxMemberWelcome to IA.
As far as perception goes with cookie cutter sites, it’s hard to say since you’re talking about the way individuals see the site. Personally I don’t like the look of PhotoShelter’s pages. I was on their stock program but haven’t tried their personal archive.
Livebooks is cookie cutter but generally excepted as being a professional solution for websites, and widely used within the photography world for portfolio pages.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberYeah Dusty, Urban Outfitters had them for $9 last month in a 3 day sale. I’ve bought mine from Freestyle Photographic (when they were hard to find elsewhere a few years ago), and I think Adorama. Now it seems like they’re in every camera shop and trendy clothing store in town, usually at outrageous prices. Don’t pay more than $28 for one or you’re getting ripped off, unless it’s a special edition one.

Chad SimcoxMemberYesteday I was trying to think of how I could shoot with my holga in the water when I go bodyboarding with friends. We’re not doing anything gnarly so I wouldn’t need a rigid housing. I hadn’t thought of using a plastic zip-lock bag. I might as well give it a try! Thanks for posting. Oh and This shot turned out great. It looks like you’re under water with minimal distortion.
