Chad SimcoxMemberMike, I assumed it was the private water that is up north of Nashville or on the cumberland plateau (if my memory is correct). I remember seeing something about it on one of the local outdoor shows (maybe Midsouth Outdoors in Memphis). The albino is what made me think it was that place. The private water I’m thinking about had steelhead (same as rainbows right?) already stocked in the water.
Hey by the way, do you know if anyone’s scouted out the waters near where the Bucksnort Trout farm was on along I-40. I wonder if any fish made it into the stream that ran near there and were able to hold over…

Chad SimcoxMemberget some predator calls to bring in the coyotes to your blind. i wouldn’t be surprised if they made sents as well. Just be careful if you call in a mountain lion.

Chad SimcoxMemberNice ones, wood ducks have always been my favorites. My dad and brother duck hunt, so I grew up looking at pictures of ducks and going out with my dad when he hunted.
By the way, the head feathers of a mallard can make for an interesting hackle on small soft hackle flies.

Chad SimcoxMemberI’ve got the 1600 sitting in my closet and I have to say it’s huge! I wouldn’t want it in my boat or for every day personal use. I got a good deal on it and got the tear out foam for it, except the foam wasn’t in one big piece, instead it’s been torn into blocks and doesn’t stayin place. I should have gotten the dividers…
If you’re looking for a way to keep your gear dry, use dry bags. The case is nice for helping protect it from getting banged up though. Pelican Cases float don’t they?http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI love my Dakine Sequence. When my brother asked for a camera backpack last christmas I got him one as well. It’s made for snowboarding or skiing photographers. It opens on the back side, meaning when you take the bag off, the part that is against your back faces up, so it won’t get wet when accessing your gear. It’s got straps to carry a snowboard, which I sometimes use for 2 or 3 lightstands and a tripod. Fair amount of space and fits nicely.
Also check out the F-Stop bags. Nice packs but kind of expensive. I’m not sure if Burton is still making their photo pack, but I know people in the action sports photography world loved it too.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberCheck out the lighting books put out by RotoVision. I have “Photographing People; portraits, fashion, glamour”. It’s a good book with lighting diagrams and the photographers talk about the process.

Chad SimcoxMemberAny color cast from the walls ?
Nothing noticeable. The walls are barely off white, kind of egg shell color.

Chad SimcoxMemberYeah David’s right, it’s not quite the same as with shooting a larger subject. Saying this is a bare bulb shot is kind of misleading. In this shot the source is actually all around because it’s reflected light coming off the walls and ceiling.
In portraits for example, bare bulb shots have a very contrasty look to them due to the point light source.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMember$1500? Whats that about a 5K run on prints? I wonder if this is going to be more common of a trend. I recently did an editorial shoot as a favor and am still getting less than I would have liked to considering it’s a favor.
Back to Orvis… They’re getting the cover plus all rights to all the photos submitted for a fraction of that cost. I know times are tough but jeeze…http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberI shoot a lot of color on the holga, I have a pile of 120 film i need to process. I think it works best in situations where there is a lot of color and color contrast. The muted colors often get washed out because of the lack of contrast in the image. So for fly fishing, on the flats, bright sunny days with a lot of greenery or other bright colors seem to work best.
Not saying it doesn’t work in these conditions, just that the results aren’t the best and usually work best in B&W.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberThat footage deffinitely looks like it came from the RED One.
I DP/Camera Op’ed my first shoot on the RED last weekend using a set of Super Speeds (mark II series) lenses. Had an amazing AC to set up the cam and pull focus. I haven’t seen the footage yet, but I’m interested to see how it came out. I shot it with one actor in shadow, one in full sun. No fill (couldn’t get a 12×12 for the shoot like I wanted.) Some of the shots had only 2″ DOF!
Once it’s edited I’ll post a link.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Chad SimcoxMemberAnd here are two black and white using the Ilford. I’m sorry I don’t remember which film it was. It was one that had a large grain. Black box with light green lettering if I remember correctly. These are scans from the negatives.
Sounds like Ilford HP5 to me.
