Memberfml. Having just received a new 5dm2, and having some concerns about some its features compared to the other cameras out there, i see this today.
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos7d/
New AF system.. check.
New metering system. check.
Wireless flash (i don’t know if this is really wireless or not, but it says it is, so i’ll run with it) check.
18 mp. check
8 fps. checkNot to mention a whole host of other features, including a fully customizable user interface where about every button is programmable, new viewfinder, and the list goes on.
Wow.
I guess i need to decide how much i really like the 5d2 now, because this seems like a heck of a camera, with real features that make a upgrade legitimately worthwhile.

MemberYou are absolutely right Will, i have been pretty impressed with it so far, too. Since i am certainly not a pro making a living off photo’s, i am usually pretty slow to upgrade, especially if its just for a couple megapixels or a bigger preview screen or something.

Chad SimcoxMemberWhy canon doesn’t let the MP war go, and put one of these things out at 12-14 mp with great image quality is beyond me.
Marketing. The laymen will automatically think that higher MP number means better quality. Thats why you see point and shoot cameras at 12+ MP right now. It’s a feature that the public has grabbed onto to relate to image quality.

I don’t quite agree because provided your lens is sharp enough to deal with the extra resolution, a higher pixel count will render more detail.
Obviously, more detail won’t always make your picture ‘better’, but in a lot of situations, like landscapes or a fish portrait it could add a lot to the quality.
(IMHO)It should also be noted that $1600 is pretty cheap for that level of resolution compared to even a couple years back.
The bad news for me is the trade-in on my DsIII’s just took a beating.. 😮 ;D

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

John BennettMemberThe 7D does look good (on paper) and its very nice to see Canon trying to fill their line up gap. I doubt I’ll get one though….but who knows, never say never. My cause for concern is as others have noted…Noise and the AF.
The aspects they’ve incorporated from the 1D series while great, isnt the meat and bones. They’ve brought in some of the custom functions etc.
RG, who in my opinion is one of the very few “reviewers” I pay any attention to (most seem to be shills too afriad to anything bad about anything at all) already said dont expect a huge leap…….where it matters.
Let other people be the guinea pigs imo.

I suspect they’re busy (back at the coup) updating all the L zoom lenses to handle the extra resolution.. 😉

So what you’re saying is, “New and Improved”…
That means what I have is, “Old and Inferior”…But we all live by the marketing departments sword…

David AndersonMemberI think we all need to remain calm and not throw away our camers as the 7D isn’t released to the public yet.
