Been gone awhile but could’nt resist adding to the thread. Phil’s council is very solid. I have dealt with AA and have had a couple of images published in the mag. It was as it should be- Phil asks to look at some pics/makes a choice/asks for the files/sends an invoice/runs the pics/sends a cheque.
I believe so, John, but apparently “closed” is not synonymous with “mastered” as I said in the previous post.
From the “Burn CD” help FAQ
“Mastered discs do not need to be closed; they are automatically compatible with other computers, so you will never see an option to close a session that you have made with the Mastered format. If you are burning a Live File System disc, however, you will need to close the current session to be able to use the disc in another computer or player (by default, Windows does this automatically when you eject the disc). “John:
The Live File option is just a way for Windows to hold the CD open so you can rewrite and delete files on the CD later.
When you select Mastered, you are closing the disk so it cannot be written over or files deleted. Always, select this option when you are burning a disk to send to someone else using a different computer.
Sortof like the old cassettes where you pop out the rewrite tab to prevent accidental erasure.
Burn a test disk and send it to one of you friends with a Mac to see if it works.
Working temperature for cured 5-minute and 30-minute epoxy which a lot of hobby rod builders use for the cork grip and reel seat is somewhere around -50 to 200F.
You can count on a rod in a metal tube in the sun on a hot day being damaged. I’ve never had one damaged in vehicle, but I take precautions as you mentioned. I also prefer the better cloth covered pvc cases for that reason.
Curious, after posting this I found this pit viper in my yard mowing today. It’s a pigmy rattlesnake about a foot long, and we seem to have a number of them on the hill top where I live and have seen them before. They are a beautiful snake, but I would not want to get bit by one on any appendage or anywhere for that matter. They have a very small rattle that makes a buzz sound like an insect you might or might not hear.
You know, Dusty, over the years I think the folks that have the best shot at landing those bigger browns are the ones that have a calm demeanor and let the fish dictate the battle. These browns don’t like being horsed around and they will either dig down and wag their head or surface and jump to dislodge the fly. Then you’ve got the runners that head right into structure (logs, moss, rocks, whatever) and those are obviously the most difficult to land.
It’s usually more animated in the boat if I see a angler heading into trouble with a fish. Mark did a good job and the fish cooperated by staying out of the structure. This battle was a straight forward power game.

For those of you who don’t know me well, the above post was my rattling Zach’s cage a bit. Zach, always the gracious host, sent me a pm and explanation for his editorial decisions (which was unnecessary for my part).
It was funny to me, however, how the topic of this thread got around to my loosing out on some photo sales in the justification of having more money to pay photographers
For instance, in the new issue of AA there are a couple shots of the swollen White River by Zach’s dad, who said he didn’t expect to be paid. (When I don’t have to pay for shots like those, I have more budget to pay photographers like all y’all);
Damn, there goes my chance of “saleable images” of White River flooding getting published :'(. Someone (in another post) was suppose to keep those in mind for their next flood story.

Hey, Zach. I use Sci Anglers Freshwater Mastery Series tippet in 12 pound test regularly for streamer fishing. It’s a copolymer blend of nylon and I like it’s characteristics. When I’m fishing the lake where I might run into a big striper I use the Mastery Saltwater 16 pound test.
Before I started using SA, I really liked the Silver Thread for streamer leader. They introduced co-polymer in 1985, and it was made in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Not sure where now.
I’m usually using 4-5 feet of straight tippet on a sink tip. So no need to tie tapered leaders for streamer fishing.
PS Are you using Maxima Green? It’s pretty good too.
My younger brother is a mechanical engineer who had college internships with Mobile monitoring global oil supplies and for the past twenty years he’s worked for companies with defense department contracts. He seems to have a knack for predicting how economic factors will perform in the near term (probably because of all that inside information he has at his fingertips and which probably also explains why he has not become filthy rich since the SEC would take a special interest in his stock portfolio).
Last Thanksgiving he told me gas would be 4 bucks/gallon by the summer and $8/gal in 2009. So far his prediction has been on track. Lord, I hope he’s wrong this time. That would be crippling to my business and my trout fishing!

Further thought. I would encourage everyone to use licenses for each specific use for their photos so the terms of use are spelled out. If you agree to exchange a photo for credit line, spell it out and limit it to a one time occurence.
I’ve sent photos to game department biologists or university researchers before for use in their powerpoints or research article, and I include a personal use/research publication/presentation license specifically for them so when they leave that position the photo is not free legally to still circulate around in use.
