My younger brother is a mechanical engineer who had college internships with Mobile monitoring global oil supplies and for the past twenty years he’s worked for companies with defense department contracts. He seems to have a knack for predicting how economic factors will perform in the near term (probably because of all that inside information he has at his fingertips and which probably also explains why he has not become filthy rich since the SEC would take a special interest in his stock portfolio).

Last Thanksgiving he told me gas would be 4 bucks/gallon by the summer and $8/gal in 2009. So far his prediction has been on track. Lord, I hope he’s wrong this time. That would be crippling to my business and my trout fishing!

Has anyone here used an after market “gauge“, nice little $170.00 gadget to track things.

This year has been the death of me in terms of my time on the water.

My drive from DC to anywhere I want to fish is at least a half tank in my Trailblazer.

I mentioned this early in the tread, but the price of gas has had a stong positive effect on my fishing, thanks to a kayak and close proximity of fishing water.

This being cottage season and given we have soo many lakes (and cottages here) the price of running “pleasure craft” ( and not using them much )is getting alot of play in the press these days and thats people who have their boats on the water at cottages

Not the people who would hual their boats to different lakes each weekend to ski/fish/whatever.

Big truck/SuV to haul the boat to lake X. Probalby takes close to a full tank round trip or $100.00
Big old bass/ski/pleasure boat to fill up and burn off. No idea but it cant be cheap, boats are hard on gas.

Having only a canoe and toon I can’t really emphasise but thats gotta hurt.
