MemberFunny Neal. That happens to be the project I am currently building in the middle of the first shot. Cool pictures.

MemberThat is awesome! Beautiful fish.

MemberI can certainly understand how this topic got started, as there is content in every fly fishing magazine that I read that simply does not interest me. Fly fishing has become an exceedingly broad topic in recent years, and as such, there are facets of our sport that I find new and exciting as well as some that seem completely ridiculous to me. Most magazines worth their salt however are going to cover all of these areas at some time or another. My point being that fly-fishermen are a pretty diverse group these days and the magazines we read are tasked with the difficult dilemma of catering to everyone. I subscribe to several magazines with the mindset that only a portion of the material is going to be geared towards my interests. While I can understand the need for constructive criticism, I do not understand the unreasonable expectation that every page in every publication should be educational or entertaining for everyone. Just my 2 cents.

MemberNICE!!!!! It is cool to go back through this thread and then get to see the final product. Looks like you did a great job. Enjoy it, and post some pictures along the way.

MemberI haven’t seen them get much bigger than the one that you caught. I have seen a couple of regular koi in a neighborhood pond get up around 20 lbs though.
Andrew Wright
MemberI am with Andrew. My parents have a koi pond with several butterfly koi, and that fish has all the same characteristics.

MemberGreat article Zach. Somehow I never managed to get that last issue of Fish & Fly. I am going to miss that magazine.

MemberWow, great pictures guys. I had a blast this weekend. It was good to meet and fish with those of you that I had never met before. I only took one picture, as my photography skills tend to be sub-optimal at best and I was pretty much surrounded by incredible photographers. This was one of Zach’s fish. Probably the largest Brook trout that was caught this weekend.

MemberI don’t think any photo could ever do that place justice. There was just too much going on in there. Certainly one of the highlights of the trip.

MemberIt is killing me trying to remember what song that girl was singing. All I know is that it sounded like she had just sucked down about 10 balloons worth of helium… Not exactly the voice of someone old enough to be out drinking in a bar.

MemberI will see what I can do…I don’t think my flies would be much to look at, but I know for a fact that my photography would make most folks on this board cringe. I will try and post a couple at some point if I can figure out which way to point the camera.

MemberCrisis averted. Went by the fly shop after work today and they let me buy a pair of replacement jaws off of one of the vises they had in stock. They are going to call Renzetti tomorrow and if they will take the jaws back, the shop said they would give me my money back. At the very least

MemberThe Fish Hawk.

MemberYeah, I am pretty sure I am not OK with my lack of a vise right now.
Dusty,

MemberThe double uni works excellent for connecting materials of different thicknesses as well. If there is a big difference in the size of materials, I usually go one less turn on the thicker material. This makes the connection more proportional on both sides, and helps the knot hold better.

MemberIf there is one company that stands out in my mind as the absolute worst customer service, it would have to be Delta. Hands down. But the airline industry as a whole seems to struggle in this department. Either way, sounds like you got it handled. Have a good trip man.
Andrew Wright
MemberAgreed Zach…..The New Zealand footage is sick.
Good work Morse. Can’t wait to see more.

MemberFun topic. Very interesting. I am in project management for a commercial construction company in Atlanta. I am currently working on a 34 story office/condo project.
