Well it seems after a week of reading that I’m not the only one in this boat. ;D I have (at least for now…) decided that the 400 5.6 is what I want. After all, 400mm is where I want to be when I’m in wildlife mode and most of the time I want more. All the comparisons I read, watched, and compared, say the 400 has faster AF and is sharper at 400mm then the other three at 400. For the life of me I don’t understand why they don’t make one with IS??? From all that I’ve read I’m sure they would sell about a million of them on the first day.

Thanks to all for the advice!

I’m not getting much sleep this week… Between the iTouch and the Mac I’m on an information overlaod!

My daughter will be enrolling at UTC soon so I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks

I’m impressed wih the Mac so far but I’ve got to get to work getting my photos moved over from an external drive (NTFS)  :-[. Until now my library of photos has been kinda of a random mess but I plan to start over now wih a new system/software and stick to it.

There is so much to do on there that’s new to me that I end up playing more then I’m working… Are there any nice web dev programs for free out there?

Great info as usual guys thanks!

I pulled the trigger on the 50D yesterday and I am going to get the 24-105 F4 from our local shop on sale. The 60mm Macro is a must have for me as well.

I had a grip with my 700 but it was just so heavy that I rarely used it. I used it mostly to help me get close at some events…. It does look very impressive.

Now the decesion is between the 300mm with 1.4 tele or the 400. Everything I’ve read says to go with the 300… I found one on craigslist for 950 that I can check it out good prior to paying for it.This is a tough choice but the lack of IS has me a little spooky of the 400 since I like to shoot without a tripod.

There is a youtube video out there somewhere. Sad indeed.

I’m almost swayed but,,, at almost twice the price I think I’ll hold off. I already have a canon HD video camera so that really doesn’t interest me as much. The 8 FPS is smoking though. Yea, I’d love to have it but I can wait.

I think the 300mm with tele is in the bag.

I went and peeked a little deeper at the 7D,, wow.

Jay that’s what I wondered about the 2x, Thanks. I’ll most likely go with the 100-400 and save up for a 70-200 2.8 if feel like I need it.

Corey right now I’m trying to save as much as I can on the body and put my money in glass. Later I’d like to get a nice Full frame body. Thanks for the info.

John I’ll recoupe most of what I have in my sony grip and flash and around $1400 for the sony 70-400 so I’m good for the 100-400 L or the 70-200 2.8. A question I have is does the 70-200 2.8 work with a 2x tele (AF). A 2x would put it at about 5.6 at 400mm right? I’m happy with a 5.6 400 for the time being.

    I’ve also got a

There are some very nice Chinese blanks on the market right now. Take the “made in” off the blank and they would earn a lot of respect instantly. The cost savings would make them very lucrative to a custom builder.

Costa Del Mar Green Mirror Cir Pol filters. So many times I’ve wanted to capture exactly what I see through my Costa’s but when you take them off the magic is gone….

Very nice. Is that a shuck on the nose of the first fish? Way cool!

Chad its Bob Whites place and yea I think he did tell me Steelhead were in the spring when he bought the place. They were from a previous stocking and had survived for years unnoticed. He also has some Elk roaming around his place too.

I haven’t been to the place in Bucksnort yet…

Its “private water” and all the fish are big.

I’ve read about that lens over at Kens site. It’s neat to find a gem this day and age that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg no matter what it is. My 70-400 G is my favorite lens at them moment but I had to shell out $1700 for it! When I see results like the Beercan considering its price, it leaves me scratching my head sometimes.

in reply to: Anyone else doing a lot of hunting this year? #40515

Same here, I sighted in my deer riffles this week. Been shooting alot more the last couple of years. I all but quit when my favorite hunting partner (my Dad) passed away. Getting back in the woods is going to be sort of an emotional reunion for me.

Zach I like a good over and under but I honestly wouldn’t take anything for my Rem 1100 20 in the field. Very classy looking shotgun that gets the job done.

in reply to: Xi3 vs. TCX in 9 weight. #40001

I have the Xi3 9 and a TCX 10. They are both great for getting hooks into tough mouths of big fish and getting them out of tight quarters. If I had to pick one of the two I’d pick the Xi3. It just has more feel to me. If I had to pick a great casting rod it’d be something softer. Of course I’d miss a lot more fish…

As for weight after you put a saltwater reel on one of these rods I can hardly see where shaving .5 oz off the rod makes much difference.
