MemberSame here, I sighted in my deer riffles this week. Been shooting alot more the last couple of years. I all but quit when my favorite hunting partner (my Dad) passed away. Getting back in the woods is going to be sort of an emotional reunion for me.
Zach I like a good over and under but I honestly wouldn’t take anything for my Rem 1100 20 in the field. Very classy looking shotgun that gets the job done.

MemberI’m looking into a Beretta 686 or a Browning Citori. I’ll buy used, but I’ve been up the escalating quality ladder with fly fishing and that taught me to simply buy what you want the first time and buy once.
Right now I’m deer hunting with a 6mm Remington that’s difficult to get ammunition for. I had my eye on a Remington CDL 7mm Mag today – may do that down the line. But my immediate goal is to at least kill one grouse in the Appalachians before I leave this area. Lauren’s done with her Ph.D. in 2011, so we’ve got about 2 years left.

Zach, I debated the same two guns and purchased a Bretta AL391 field gold last year and love it. I enjoy the 3rd shot (and 4th shot when legal) and felt that over/unders were gentlemans guns that were not practical for most of the wingshooting that i do here in the southeast. it is a beautiful gun that has all of the gold engravings of birds that you would get with an upper end beretta o/u, and does you better with turkey, dove & duck than an o/u would.
Tom Lowe Skeet @ camp creek pkwy. sells and rents beretta & browning, i went down and shot a few rounds with a 686 and a 391 before i bought which helped me make my final decision
I use a 7mm Mauser that is a nail driver! It is a great action for deer imo

The Itinerant AnglerHey Adam –
When it comes to an o/u versus a more practical gun, you won’t get any argument out of me, but I needed to go with that “gentleman’s gun” as you put it to support the photography I am planning to use this for.

Memberi take it you went the online auction route? I did with mine and saved some serious coin. Its a bit of a pain in the ass but if you are patient and do diligent research there are very good deals right now

MemberYeah, I been out bow hunting a lot this year and have let many walk past; could be my old age or the deer are getting smaller.

The Itinerant AnglerWay overkill for me, but I got a smoking deal on it and the beauty of the gun will make it easier to sell photos.

MemberApologies, Dusty…. A misspelled word… as I do often… pudelpointer is the correct name and spelling.
The are awsome upland dogs… very intense and driven in the field. Great family dogs that have hair, not fur, therefore no shedding.
