I was going to say it but didn’t think it would be well received. I don’t fish disc drags for trout, only click and pawl style reels. I catch browns up to 24″ and have never had an issue. Palming a reel can be done with some of them if I am fighting a fish in a heavy current. I had way over engineered reels with drag systems at one point in time (still do for certain fishing I do)
I wish I could take my dog but she is way to crazy so I cannot recommend pointers on fishing trips unless your dog is mellow.
The Patagonia pack I originally posted a pic of is called the double haul as well (I think) I think that is what being referenced…

Why the B-, that would be useful info for me in making a decision.
I am leaning towards the bag as it is, seems simple enough for my tastes.
Thanks for the rational explanation, I agree with almost all your points but still like a double taper line for trout fishing here in the midwest.
I have got into this debate before and don’t have the energy for it again but I disagree with everything stated above. To each his own. Here is a link to another site with some opposite opinions that lean toward my beliefs on the subject for comparison…
What about surf casting in freshwater, or floating a rather flat midwestern river such as the Ausable in MI?
