I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for, but The Fly Shop makes some nice window boxes for short money.
These look interesting from a floatability/waterproof perspective.
I haven’t dropped a box in the water yet (knock on wood) but I think wether or not floatability is a concern pretty much depends on the water you fish. Some of the water I fish it wouldn’t matter. As soon as I turned around to see where the box went it would be a long way away already 🙂 I’m thinking a lanyard attached to the inside of the pocket where the box is stored would probably make more sense in most situations.
Those Orvis watershed boxes look nice too.
PS Word is the cop was on administrative leave due to having managed to shoot himself in the foot.

Does De Havilland still exist? I thought I read somewhere that there are a finite number of Beaver [floatplanes] left in the world, and that eventually they will all break down and disappear.

I think they got bought and split up a number of years ago. I wouldn’t worry about them going away anytime. People are still restoring old ones into flying condition. They are a venerable old workhorse. It just might mean you won’t be able to afford one in the future. Not like they are cheap today 🙂
The one’s I saw when I was up there a few years ago were between $350k and $550K. I would expect them to be more now.

My pointer got into my materials not too long ago. Got into three of my capes. Someone told me I needed to train her to ‘sort by size’. ;D
The “magical point” for pick up on a full sink for me usually lies somewhere around 3′ from the tip of my rod. Picking up line that is laying on the water like with a floating line is a way to ensure injury. Once I got used to having to cast/retrieve these lines differently, they started accounting for their fare share of fish. Stick to it!
A good trick for picking up a sinking line is to give it a quick roll cast to bring it up to the surface before you break into the backcast.

I just spent some time with one of the Masters who helped with administering the testing. He, too, stated 5 took the tests and one passed.
When asked what the over-riding problem was, he said they all talked too much. They gave lengthy explanations when only short, concise ones were wanted. They wanted to tell everything they knew instead of keeping it short and broadening the explanation if and when asked.
That is one that I have heard often as well.
