I’ve looked at Garage Band, and it won’t really meet my needs.  I might, but I’d have to really tweak the features I saw, and Audacity, when it works, is much more direct.  Also, that on-computer microphone is awful, just in case you were thinking of trying it.  I tried for one show and it sounds like you’re broadcasting out of a garbage bin.  *G*

I use Amadeus Pro to edit (it is a lot more polished than Audacity) and then I mix in GarageBand.

Do most chargers not run the ipod off AC during download?

When I hook my ipod to my desktop Mac I can charge and download.

When I download directly from my CF cards (via a CF reader) to the ipod there is no charger/power supply (at least not one avail last year) – every thing is running off the ipod.

You must be talking about the older Belkin type of readers.  The new iPods and the Photo adapter let you plug in the camera’s USB cable and download from the camera directly.  It is much faster and takes much less juice.  The Belkin was always a little lacking.

I have the Cliff Outdoors Top Shelf attached to my vise base.  It has a nice big magnet patch for storing hooks and a foan strip for storing finished flies.  It also has hook and hackle gauges laser engraved into the wood.  Pretty handy.

Also, Jann’s Netcraft has a PDF size chart for all lure making (there is a fly hook section) in PDF that is downloadable.
