    Rich,
    What I was referring to was tier pricing schedules many  manufactures give discounts to the higher volume dealers and to the dealers that will agree to buying volumes for the next season.

    I thought that is what you were referring to Mark.

    I agree with John, but I think it should be noted that not everyone pays the same price from the manufacturer.

    Can you elaborate?

    Now this begs another question…..if I’m charged sales tax from an Internet vendor at the time of purchase….according to GA law….I’m still responsible for paying 7% to the GA Dept. of Rev?? So I get taxed twice? Am I reading this wrong?

    I don’t think so.

    Cabela’s does not have a physical presence in GA and therefore state taxes on sales to GA residents is not done. For Cabela’s to do so would kill their mail order business in GA.  After all, as has been noted above, the  lack of sales tax, in many instances, is the price savings.

    It looks like Georgia is one of the states that leaves it up to the individual to be honest.  Emphasis mine – From the GA Dept of Revenue:

    A. Yes. Mail order or catalog sales delivered to a Georgia address by a vendor based in Georgia are subject to Georgia sales tax. Mail order or catalog sales delivered to a Georgia address by a vendor located outside Georgia is subject to Georgia use tax. Taxpayers are required to report and remit use tax on Form ST-3USE. The tax rate is based on the county where delivery takes place.

    Not all states work this way.  A lot of them take it out up front.  I know no one ever claims it.  I just wanted to see what the situation was as I don’t live there.

    It looks like there is two Orvis retail stores in Georgia so they would fall in the physical presence category.

    If you buy a Winston from Cabelas it will cost you $19.95 for shipping.  That will eat up any $15 or $20 coupons.

    I’ve got to respectfully play devil’s advocate here:

    My Local Flyshop:
    Winston LT5 4 weight = $695
    7% sales tax = $48.65
    Total = $743.65

    Cabelas:
    Winston LT5 4 weight = $695
    S&H = $19.95
    Total = $714.95

    Savings through Cabelas = $28.70*

    That isn’t exactly right.

    I usually use Pheasant tails in the smaller sizes from about 16 down and Hare’s Ears for the larger sizes.  I like the Guide’s Choice Hare’s Ear with a bead and a soft hackle.

    You might try one of the guys on this list:

    http://www.stealthrubber.com/resolers.php

    The US resolers are near the bottom of the list.

    I should have added Great Bay Rods to the list as well.

    The Sage TXL rods are really nice casters but you would have to settle for 7′ or 7’10”.

    Make sure you print out the maps before you go.  They are pretty good.

    Also be sure to stop in and have a cold one at the Buck Rub.

    $120 is too much for a shirt, I don’t care how technical it is.  I suspect that shirt is no longer available because everyone else felt the same way.

    Zach

    The Guidewater shirt is still available ($119).
