Seems to me that dogs and their owners can be a lot like kids and their parents.

5 minute drive and 15 minute walk puts me on freshwater stripers, so far up to 14 pounds, looking for a 20 pounder.  As a bonus there are white bass, hybrids, catfish, and carp.   In Tulsa

Supply and demand free market works !  I have a friend that has collected hackle for years and at the height of the trend he sold $6,000 worth of his collection.  Good for him, I’ll bet he buys some new gear with that money.

If some of the nearsighted fishermen decide to boycott Whiting’s product  it will just be that much easier for me to find.

Give the flyshop owners a break, I don’t know any of them that are getting rich.  Most seem to be barely hanging on.

Gorilla Glue, its a polyurethane liquid glue available at most builder supply/hardware stores.
Clean off all the old felt with coarse sandpaper, mist the new felt just a very small amount with water and clamp it in place with duct tape.
I have tried just about everything but this stuff works.

whatever it gets on it stays on.  I have some on my work clothes that has been there for years and it hasn’t even begun to wash off.

Yeah it’s all pretty subjective and I see foreign made rods rated well in rod comparisons all the time.  I have never cast one and I really just don’t want to.  I’ve always been able to find what I want in a US made rod including cost and quality.  What will that rod cost by the time you have the cork replaced ?

I don’t know about the rod industry but the reason many foreign products are cheaper than US is because they are direct ( poor quality ) knock offs of something someone else has gone through the expence of design/test/building.

Please don’t consider those of us who try to support American craftsmanship to be self righteous

I guess I’ll keep buying the better product and let you worry about who made it.

    “better”  ?

Let me start by saying that i have been fly fishing for since i was about 9.  I have also been a hunter for about the same length of time.  My point is that i do a lot of stuff in the outdoors and have never felt the need to cover up.  I can not for the life of me understand why fly fisherman feel the need to wrap their heads like members of al-qaeda.  I see the pictures everywhere and dont understand it.  Why dont people just use sunscreen or wear a hat?  Honest question here, not making fun…

Because of all of the above answeres plus – fly fishermen are gear junkies.
After skin cancer removal #5 I think, I’m going in to give some more flesh next month.

A friend sent this propaganda to me.

    Note: He’s a wolf hater and anti-environmentalist…

    http://www.lobowatch.com/

I didn’t watch the video but I have to agree with the idea that many of these groups that were named would stop all hunting if they could.  Well except for the government control officers that kill wildlife for them when puppy wuppy is killed by “invasive wildlife”.
And heck if hunting is bad for animals then fishing MUST be bad for fish.

I have been fishing Woming for a number of years now with jaunts into YNP and Montana, always alone, and now consider fishing Yellowstone not for me.  I don’t even camp there unless I’m in a hardsided enclosure.

I started getting the clue when I would walk into the fly shops in Cody.  Conversation would turn to “where have you been fishing?” and when I would tell them the next question was ALWAYS “did you see any bears. ” Then how was the fishing.

Even some of the tree hugging proenvironmentalist(as opposed to the wolf hater anti-environmentalist) Wyoming locals are starting to get concerned over the bear attacks in YNP and surrounding areas.

Maybe after some lengthy study some researcher may find out what really is going on.  One thing is for sure though, bears eat humans because we are available for sure and maybe  they are learning not to be afraid of us.

    Just an opinion
I’d also like to know the truth about how well bear spray works.  Probably like so many other things, sometimes good and sometimes not so good.

Aluminum is noisy and seems to drag harder on rocks,  wood is pretty if done well but no matter what you tell yourself they take more maintenance,  fiberglass is ok,
But the guys I fish with that own BBW like the sharp chines for their handling on the water, they slide off rocks better than other materials.
They are also not afraid to launch down steep rocky slides that they would never take another boat down, but pretty ?  They look buttugly to me.

Windy day on the other side of the lake from the truck,  batteries for the trolling motor die, nobody on the water but you.
Unless you have lots of time it sorta sucks with a motor you can’t depend on.

In case anyone is intrested in a do it yourself trip.   I found the info from a trip I took a few years ago.

    http://www.casasirena.com/

A bit of a drive from Cancun, less so from some of the other resorts south of there.  The “mermaid” is a trip, the guides were great and so was the fishing.
No ATM’s no credit cards, cash only but it was not much money.

Watch the speed limits on the drive down,  the policia like those Jeeps with Avis stickers on the bumper,   but any fine can be negociated.

No kidding.  A buddy and I were pulled over on the boulevard about 1/2 mile from the airport in Cancun by motorcycle cops for absolutely noting.  Tell the cops delicately to go pound sand, and they will.  They’re just looking for an easy buck and if you make it hard for them, they will leave you alone.

I was pulled over in Tulum, I was speeding (long story).   The kind policeman reduced my fine from $ 160 to $ 20 after a bit of haggling and paying in cash on the spot.
