Jeff SmithMemberI upgraded from a Dodge Dakota to a 2010 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4X4. Hauls everything I need on a fishing or hunting trip, so far anyway……
Running around 25 or so miles/gallon (rough conversion from litres)
Topper on the back and I can sleep under it, just set up my cot. Gear is easily stashed under cot. Secure storage for fly rods/guns under back seat of cab.
I just set up the Coleman two burner on the tailgate, lawn chair and cooler by the fire….life is good! I use a piece of plywood under the stove to protect the paint from grease and to level the stove.
Time to move on, I just fold up the cot, pack the stove, close tailgate and mosey on up the trail.
While deer hunting last year, I just rolled out my sleeping bag on the backseat, toasty warm at -40. (Of course it helps to be 5’6″)Jun 24, 2012 at 3:44 pm #52809mike j

ECO setting is on and cruise control. Most of my driving is across pretty flat roads. Get a headwind and I don’t do so well but on most road trips I do pretty good. Around town, I don’t want to think about it lol. Alot of guys I know around here that drive the 2010 get anywhere from 20-25. Goes down if you get the speed up over 110kms/hr too.

MemberI am in the same boat as Curtis, no pun intended. I have always owned a truck with a bed but am looking at the possibility of a SUV. I have always considered a truck being built for towing, but I am liking the roominess inside a SUV. My boat and trailer weigh less than 1,000 lbs and I must have a 4 door. Toyo’s seem to really be popular on this thread and I would like to have decent fuel mileage. I am shopping for a 4runner/pathfinder. Hard to find one vehicle to do it all.

Member2011 Toyota Tundra with a 33″ BFG’s, 2.5″ Rough Country level kit, Ride Rite airbags, Ranch Hand grill guard, NFAB nerf bars, Husky slider 5th wheel hitch with controller brakes, and Husky floor liners. All I need is a spray-on bed liner and a super charger. I just averaged 19 mpg through the Park last weekend.

I also have a 97 T-100 with 250,000+ and a 05 Sequoia………….Ya, I like Yodas.

Mike LewisMemberI’m on my 4th Subaru Outback. I use it in my work as well as play, so it is off road a lot. Solid performer on and off the road and with the new transmission gets good mileage – 26 to 28 MPG in mixed city and highway driving. It is built like a rock and comes fully equiped (all wheel drive, roof rack, all terrain tires, spoke wheels) for a very reasonable price (about $25,000). Inside storage is good and the roof is low enough to load the kayaks while the ground clearance is one of the highest of any SUV.
I have a 2011 (wife’s daily driver, family trip car) that we absolutely love. I’ve done several trips in it, including Michigan in the snow, to Florida with kayaks on the roof, and 5 guys with 5 backpacks. I have gotten higher than 31 mpg on the highway when you stay around 65mph. It is about 25 in town and 23 with the kayaks on the roof.
My other ride is a 2003 f150 work truck with 170k on it. Never had a single issue with it and I can fit 4+ kayaks/canoes in the 8′ long bed. Averages in the 17 mpg range with the little V8.

Member2012 Tundra. Gets 12-17 mpg. Usually about 12. Just drove 1600 miles round trip to the Keys and not a single gas station was passed. Wife wanted it way more than I did because she thought we needed a full size truck and this one has approx 120-150 airbags. Kept my 98 Tacoma 4cyl 4×4 as a daily driver. That truck I love.
