Some inexpensive ideas here.

Member’97 Toyota Land Cruiser ?
Last year with a solid front axle for any Toyota in the US, coil suspension, locking differentials available, take out as many seats as needed to carry gear and make room to sleep.
They are old enough to be not too expensive but still can find some with great life left in them (soccer mom wagons), 4+liter straight six has pretty good torque but not so good mileage or acceleration. Lots of room in the wheel wells for oversize tires. Cross country expedition comfort. With a 2 1/2″ lift, 33″ tires, aftermarket front and rear bumpers and locking center, front, and rear diffs I ran the entire Hole in the Rock trail last year. No drama and only an occasional rear bumper dragging.

MemberYou can’t beat the dependability of Toyota. I made a vow years ago to never own another Jeep, and they haven’t improved as far as I can tell. Land Rover? They don’t make anything that I would consider a tow vehicle and yes they do have dependability problems.
If you aren’t opposed to a pickup, Ford or Chevy, they are configured in lots of choices. You can add a slide in camper or a fiberglass shell for car camping.
David, sorry to hear about your Defender, I owned one for 13 years, just sold it. Never had trouble with it, it was easy to work on and tons of fun. Just sold it so I could buy a flats skiff.

MemberThanks Bill, just had the dates crossed with something else I have going on.
I’m looking forward to meeting you.

MemberI can’t make it the 10th but I am planning to be there for the 13th. Looking forward to it.
Is the speaking part of the seminar going to be recorded for those who can’t make it ?
R Black
MemberHey Joe, I’ve never tried it in ceviche but have you tried it blackened?
R Black
MemberCrazy !!!
A fish like that…
In fresh water…
On a fly…
R Black
MemberThat’s what I grew up on Zach, jigs or minnows or both, for crappie in the cedar trees with my Grandpa.
Fried crappie, hushpuppies, fried potatoes, maybe some cream corn or greens. Mm mm.

MemberI don’t think it’s the difference of opinion that is causing us to butt heads, it’s the total reeducation you are giving me (I’ll speak for myself) on fly lines.
Are any of the “improvements” in fly lines over the last 20 or so years real or are they just marketing gimmicks? Is it just a marketing ploy that all lines are not the same stiffness, do not have the same texture, coatings and so on that they had then? Since you say much of this is just marketing, do your lines save us money by doing away with these?
I do have one opinion though that is nothing but opinion, as far as color, all lines could be light, dark, or clear as far as my use.
Out of respect to you and others on the site the last word is yours, I’m checking out.

MemberMaybe the words shadowflyfish should have noticed in Chris’s post were tropical and temperate. Less on salt and fresh as far as stiffness goes.
The string vs wire comparison is also bizarre along with the rest of that quote. I know, shadow has no opinion on the quote.
I do wonder about the tippet vs 0000# line hitting the water comment. I think you almost always have to lead the fish for this reason and not hit the fish with the line (line the fish). I also believe the appearance of a clear line 9′ or 12 to 14′ away at the fat end of a leader, is not the same as it would appear at the fishes nose. Clear lines sometimes do matter.
I still say I don’t mean to be harsh. I just see more red flags.
R Black
MemberOk I’ll buy the line, pay the shipping on it, send you the book, pay to ship it to you. After you read it I’ll pay return shipping.
I will give you and only you feedback on the line, you can give me and anyone else you want, your opinion on trade with China after you read the book.
If you like my opinion on your line you can share it with others if you want.
You have nothing to loose.
R Black
MemberSpend your money any way you like, I like to support my local fly shop. If I have a problem I can walk in the door and talk it over with them.
But shadowfly, I promise to buy one of your lines and fish it for a season if you will first read, Death by China, by Navarro & Autry.
In fact lets trade even money, I paid more than $20 for the book but it’s been read once.R Black
MemberWaiting on the white bass in north Texas. We need some rain.
R Black
MemberThe quote should read
” Along with the fact that I personally don’t like anything Asian in my fishing gear.”I do like stir fry !
Curtis, that was my thought too, lawn casting.
And shadowfly, I don’t mean to be hard on you. I just don’t like to see American jobs, ingenuity, quality of living etc. go to the lowest bidder.

MemberSorry but I’m a little skeptical when on the one hand the lines are said to be 20 bucks because of introductory pricing, then on the other they “may slightly go up, currently they are doing very well at this price”.
When I think of a simple piece of PVC, I think of the plumbing under my sink. Some of the podcasts I have heard about fly line construction over the years makes it sound a little more complicated than this. If you steal someone else’s research and design work, take it off shore and set up shop it does simplify things.
And a mystery rod designer reinforces my skepticism. Along with the fact that I personally don’t like anything Asian in my fishing gear.
R Black
MemberWhat does “color processed in Pa” mean? Would you say you are a manufacturing, or marketing company? Where are your products made?
What would you say will be the price of your lines after the introduction is over?

MemberIf your ever in Tampa, stop by “Tampa Bay on the Fly”, not only is the more than one vice you can use but Enver (owner) has materials laying out for use! He’ll also gladly share his knowledge about what works locally! Great little shop and really good guy!
X2. I visited his shop the other day. He knew I was from out of state but told me if I ever needed anything to let him know.
R Black
MemberSuch experiences to help me decide which shops to support, all things considered, if there is another choice.
(other than online)R Black
MemberYes, micro seems pretty relative.
