I have watched every single playoff game for the Wings, not to mention many of their regular season.

Yeah that is just one of the joys of going after carp with the fly. Just stick with it and you will get one.

I’ll be getting my carp thing on Saturday and Monday I will be going after some spring run steelhead up in Michigan. But if the carp fishing is really good I may have to scrap the steelhead trip.

That roosterfish logo is sweet. If I saw that on a hat I would buy it in a heart beat. I like the others as well, but th roosterfish gets my vote.

The Xi2 is a great rod, but I’m more inclined to fish my 6wt. Z-axis over my 8wt. Xi2 anytime bonefishing in the Bahamas. SAGE did hit the ball out of the park with the Xi2, but they hit a grand slam with the Z-axis. Still none the less the Xi2 is a great rod, heck thats why I have three, 8,10,12.
Here is my entry, a 34lb. carp taken on May 12th.
Wish I had a bigger carp though, there are some in the area that I am fishing that are pushing 60lbs 😮Isn’t it carp have whiskers and suckers don’t?  And isn’t there a difference in the fins too?
They are called barbels. One of the flies in the box I and a buddy have given the name the “Barbel Knocker” deadly pattern for carp in streams.
I would be happy to help as many of you guys out as possible. Don’t worry Tim your time will come.

Here is the carp box, its a little thin after the past couple of days.
The carp in the in the very first post had a length of 41″ and a girth of 31″. I was unsure about the weight until I talked to some carp guys I know and they told me it was right around 34lbs. These guys catch hundreds of carp a year so I think they are pretty dead on about the weight.
Dusty, I was putting carp are similar to bonefish to the test and was throwing a pink clouser. I mostly stick to crayfish imitations, but was feeling like goofing around for a bit and decided to throw the clouser.

That’s not the sea in the background. It’s one of the Great Lakes. Carp are worth giving a shot they are a lot of fun.

None taken, I figured that you wear implying something along those line. I’m pretty ate up with carp, I think about catching them everyday. I landed over 100 on the fly last year, and my goal for this year is over 200. I myself would rather catch carp over almost any species right now.Aaron,
I’m not force feeding them anything. Carp will readily take a fly if presented correctly. That day the fly of choice was a size 6 Borski Fur Shrimp. Another good fly is Whitlock’s near nuff crayfish size 6. Really anything crayfish looking that is brown or tan works great. You just have to be on your A game casting to get the fly right where they want it.

I use 3 rods mainly for carp.
1. 8wt. Z-axis, 11ft., fast action: This is the rod that I am using in the pictures.
2. 6wt. Z-axis, 9ft., fast action: This is my main carp rod, I use this for carp of all sizes.
3. 4wt. VT2, 8.5ft., mod-fast action: I started to use this rod based on a dare. My body told me I could land a carp over 15lbs. in under 10minutes using it. I ended up landing a 20lber. in about 7 minutes on it. I like to use it on carp that are around 5lbs or so. Lots of fun.Zach, rain isn’t always that bad for carp. My favorite time to go is right after a rain in some of the places around my apartment. Carp usually put on the feed bag right after a rain.
Timscott, thanks for the title. I’ve also been graced by the name of Carp Slayer as well. The real nice thing is that I have about 6 spots I like to go to, but these pics are from my favorite by far.

Smallies are a big deal for us up here in Indiana. The shop that I work at focuses on smallies specifically. Right now is prime time up here for them, two days ago I set a personally best with a fish right around 4lbs. and well over 20″.
By the way I love how the Scott rep is fishing a Sage

That’s the article I thought you were talking about, I actually know the author. He is the rep for SA and Scott for the shop in my area. I would go with a Rio versi-tip system and buy some T-11 as well to make your own tips. Its really easy to make the tips. I would get Rio over SA for that type of fishing. The versi-tip would be the best line in the market in my opinion for what you are trying to do. As for rods I would look at the Sage Launch or Fli and the Scott A2. I know that these may be a little more then what you are willing to spend, but these are great rods and saves money compared to buying a Z-axis or a S4. They will get the job done just fine.
