MemberShould be a sin to eat a steelhead.
What if it’s a hatchery fish?
Depends on the strain of fish, but I personally would never eat a steelhead.

Member$425 with lunch, drinks, flies, and equipment included(if needed of course), and at least 8hrs. of fishing.

MemberIt depends.
There are a lot of factors to look at when buying gear, the biggest being conditions and amount of use. In my case yes, I fish more then most people and see the advantages of the gear. Now for someone that is a weekend warrior they probably do not need the gear that I use.
As long as the consumer can justify the purchase for themselves, that is all that matters.

MemberI only have 2 patterns that I swing for steelhead, I only play around with the color of the materials and size for given water conditions and weather condition.
And…what are they
Some of Feenstra’s patterns, just modified a little bit.

MemberFishing in Downtown GR is a guilty pleasure for sure. More fish swim under those bridges and over that dam than anywhere in the Midwest – and probably more than most rivers out west. It’s just dealing with the semi’s jake brakes, bums, and crowds that can really make it unappealing.
Nice fish.
The numbers that of fish that come up that way are insane. It’s not that bad to fish it now that the salmon are pretty much all gone and deer season has started. Besides if you are not fishing below the dam you have a majority of the water all to yourself. I think I only saw 4 other people fishing below the dam that day, it was pretty nice.

MemberWere you listening to Eminem while fishing?
No, but I was listen to some Rammstein earlier that day. Sort of my thing before going fishing.

MemberI use that stuff all the time for swing for steelhead. Works great even in clear water.

MemberI usually use 3x fluoro, but have been using 4x with the low and clear water I have in the creek I am fishing. It makes a big difference go to the lighter tippet.

MemberI think that we might want to bring this thread back to the topic that started it.
The VXP is a new rod family that Sage has produced. If you get a chance go cast one at your local dealer. I have casted the 6,7 and 8wt. I believe that if you cast these rods and have casted the XP you will notice the difference between the two series. I know that the 6 and 7wt. are going to be good rods for smallmouth in my area. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the 7wt. two-hander. Simon Gawesworth had one out on the Dean in B.C. a little while back. Used skagit lines and the new Rio Scandi lines on it and enjoyed it.

Everyone wants to be in this business, but don’t understand the retail side of it.

On a $700 rod the shop is going to make $350 versus $200 on a $400 rod.
I would like to see where you got the break down that shops make a true 50% on rods.

MemberSage has added switch rods to the TCX series.

MemberZach,
Not sure what fly Sage took the look from. It looks cool though.
