I think that we might want to bring this thread back to the topic that started it.
The VXP is a new rod family that Sage has produced. If you get a chance go cast one at your local dealer. I have casted the 6,7 and 8wt. I believe that if you cast these rods and have casted the XP you will notice the difference between the two series. I know that the 6 and 7wt. are going to be good rods for smallmouth in my area. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the 7wt. two-hander. Simon Gawesworth had one out on the Dean in B.C. a little while back. Used skagit lines and the new Rio Scandi lines on it and enjoyed it.
Michael, I have not cast one and am in a flyshopless area currently. The Z-axis to me is flexible but fast and the XP was stiff and fast, im guessing that the VXP falls somewhere in the middle as far as flexibility. I am looking forward to casting a 6 to see where it fits in the lineup. I have owned an XP, FLi and currently own a RPLX and RPLXI in a 690 configuration and by the sounds of it seems like 5-8wt is the zen size for this line.
I dont understand the only fast action rods comment that someone else made earlier. I seems like everyone in the industry has a progressive action rod line.
Steve the Cabellas deal was a one off, they guaranteed to take the lot, that’s a manufacturers dream, margins therefore are their business. No stock inventory for Sage, no marketing, no reps commissions, no advertising………
If you want a slower rod just up line it. Some guys found the TXL a little fast for what they wanted so they ran a 3 line over a 2 rod.

Then we would complain about lack of choice.
If there was really choice, then companies would be producing slow, medium slow, medium, medium fast, fast, ultra fast, etc. 10 sticks in 10 different colors, but with the same action doesn’t equal choice in my mind.
Let’s figure this out:
10 sticks in 10 different colors/actions = 100 sticks
100 sticks in different colors/actions x 15 different weights = 1500 sticks
1500 sticks from 10 different manufacturers = 15,000 sticks
Just wondering how many fly shops are willing to put that in their inventory. It’s a recipe for bankruptcy.
Very Well Put. As it is we battle to carry all the sticks in one or two of the brands…
