MemberHeh –
Reminds me of the guys in my backyard a couple weeks ago, trying to untangle the power lines that had turned into a ball of confusion.
Will try to get those shots up soon.
Most amusing stuff sir.

MemberThat is really cool Aaron and some great shots there as well. I don’t do this often but, I will be more than happy to drive over and hold your gear while you go out and play with those cute little Kitty’s. π I would love to have some new free extra gear LOL…
LOL

MemberYou’ve made me homesick for northern Minnesota again John.
Lovely work – just lovely.
The moose – while I love your second landscape, and the third too, the moose with the foliage foreground works for me, backlit or not.

MemberGreat shot Kendal and a hardy congratulations to you. You need to pack your bags and come with me to the Gobi, they still use Eagles there :).
Ooooo – how glorious that’d be.

Glad to hear you are back on track though. Are you going to post some of the falconry images you spoke of? Congrats on getting the cover!

MemberCarter,
I think I may be the only one relying solely on Aperture 2.1, but based on your, and the other’s, comments, I am beginning to seriously consider LR 2.0. I was speaking w/ a pro. photg. buddy of mine, and he suggested Elements as well. Do any of y’all use this program? Or do you think LR 2.0 has the right functions, negating the need for Elements?
D.You’ll need both – or any sort of second graphic editing program that lets you burn/dodge/clone/repair/mend.
LR will spot heal/clone, but only spot heal/clone, so if you’ve large edits, you’ll need an editor.
Something to note is that LR will take any graphic editor you specify – so if you’re working with something non-Adobe (ie; Paint Shop Pro) you can use it.
LR is (imnsho) *the* tool for photographers. I use it every day, and I don’t know what I’d do without it.

MemberThanks again for the extra eye’s and critiques. This is the new direction that I am headed in. Still needs a bit of work but I have to be careful and consider the text on the top section and keep the final print balanced. I know that it is not a great looking fly but it will make sense later. π
Just had to say that this second image is so much better than the first – I’m surprised.
The first was too flat – this pops really nicely, and your eye isn’t drawn away to superfluous elements in the background that have nothing to add to the story being told.
Really, really nice work Ben.

MemberNothing wrong with those.. π
Anyone that was unhappy with that sort of high ISO quality never had to shoot Fuji 400 tranny at +2 in low light.

Memberyeah, some birds you just don’t want to PO.
The girl I go out with, her Red Tail named “appache” Id not want ripping half my face off.and 222 lbs – and an ex-rugby player.

MemberJust once?
ok, here ya go.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAsXtDKdU0QI could be wrongabout Norway…pretty sure they do it up that way though.
I’d seen that clip before – it’s another young (4’ish years old or younger) golden.
Almost looks like a roe deer too – little suckers aren’t much bigger than a German shepherd.
Recalling that bird flying towards me, and the size of the claws, I don’t think she’d have much trouble taking me down if she was at speed, and I’m 6’1″ and 222 lbs – and an ex-rugby player.

MemberWelcome back π
Sweet images Kendal. What I wouldn’t give to go Norway where they use Eagles to hunt Whitetails and Wolves. What a photo/fishing adventure that would be. Another month and change and I should be getting back out with the Falconeers up again.
J
Amen to that John – Norway, eagles, deer?!?!

MemberGotta add my dos pesos;
I too like #2 – but – it depends on use.
#1 is far better suited for either ad or editorial use, assuming there would be text inserted. It has a more constant background, and all that lovely negative space is what editors and photo editors yearn for, if they’re the type that like to add text to photos that is.
So – my comment is that it’s all about usage.

MemberHey Zach, you might want to check out Genuine Fractals by OnOne. Best image enlargement software on the market, IMO. be a shame to limit that great shot due to small file size, I think that you would really enjoy this plugin as it fits perfectly into CS3, and is also in mac format. 400-500 % file size increases are very crisp and I have seen some up to 700% that are crystal sharp.
Not that I need to, given Ben’s obvious expertise π

MemberI’m curious, from a fishing perspective; this a fly for freshwater fish, or salt? Of course I realize it could be used for either, but I’m wondering what it’s specifically tied for, and what the overall size of the fly is.
Kendal,
This is a freshwater fly. I wouldn’t use it for salt soley for the fact that it is tied on a freshwater hook. But I bet it would make an amazing sand crab pattern for corbina and halibut. The overall size is probably 3″. Not having it here in front of me, I’m going to assume it is tied on a size 4 or size 6 hook. It’s a big heavy fly!
I bought it from Fly Fishing Outfitters in Avon, Co to use on The Blue River below Green Mountain Reservoir. I don’t think this fly has ever seen the water. If I ever pick up an 8wt like I plan on doing, I’ll probably throw this bad boy for the big bass that live in the lakes here. Thanks for the other comments guys. Zach, this was a spur of the moment self assignment to just try and see if I could get a shot that I found to be interesting.
Very cool to know man.
We regularly fish flies that big on the coast here in Texas – big fish = big flies.

MemberI shot this photo last year when i first picked up a new sunpak 383 strobe. Stobe below aimed up with white reflector over fly and vice to reflect back down. I was trying to get a unique style for this photo to illustrate using big streamers at night for big fish.
Nice technique – the bounce worked great.

MemberJohn –
First, welcome aboard.
A few fishing comments.
The Guad is a beauty, and you don’t have to belong to TU to get access. There are numerous places that you can put in/take out, and if you get yourself a kayak, you’re golden. Having said that, I think it’s worth supporting TU in the area, and they do have nice lease access.
You really should consider flyfishing the salt too. The area around Rockport/Aransas Pass/Port Aransas has some of the best flats fishing in Texas, and excellent access is available as well. Grab a 6wt or an 8wt, a few spoonflies and a mixed bag of clousers and deceivers, and you’ll be rockin’.
