    Agreed – great stuff!

Just recently bought a bike myself (Yamaha FJR1300) and about to head out of Texas on a run west – Phoenix, San Diego, L.A., San Francisco, Reno, Yosemite, then – not sure yet how I’m heading back…can’t wait.

    Ooooo…..so many great memories.

The USAF sent me to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey to study Czech for a year back in ’80…it turned out I had the language skills needed so it was a pretty easy (all things considered) course for me.

So…I spent a lotta time tromping around there…those photos really bring back very worthy memories for me.

    Merci mucho mucho

    Tosh –

The ability to license via PS comes standard with the set – just clarifying as it seems from your question of Kurt that perhaps that wasn’t clear to you.

You can also modify any of the themes; simplifying your site layout requires some understanding of how it’s all cobbled together, but it is possible.

ALSO – one thing to keep in mind is that you can cobble together “galleries” from your archive, and submit them to editors, if that’s your druther.

    in reply to: Photoshelter #72098

Ditto here — er, that is I’m there, and in the process of still fleshing out exactly how I want the site to be configured.

I went the same path Kurt took; WordPress with a Graph Paper Press theme. It is slick, and while it takes a little getting used to, the learning curve isn’t too bad.

Drop a note (email please) if ya have any questions Tosh.

Oh man – I gotta get back down south!

    Nice work Kyle.

in reply to: Contract/License question for the pro’s #71527

John’s post points out the bulk of what goes into the negotiation, but I just want to emphasize it’s exactly that; a negotiation.

You may or may not have the kind of work for hire arrangement (or nearly that) which John outlined above. It might be that you agree to X number of photos to come out of the shoot that they’d have 1 year exclusivity, or perhaps you’d share copyright with them, giving them lifetime rights with the knowledge you could still license work from those they’d chosen as rights-free imagery.

I’ve seen all the above – or a simple day rate and then they choose which they’d like to license, and you base your quote there on typical factors (usage, duration, etc).

I guess the point is, one of the very first things I learned about the photography business when I began to research it is that the standard is there is no standard – only a variety of possibilities that you can pick and choose from to you, and your customer’s satisfaction.

I’m pleased to hear that things are moving quickly – that played a significant role in site design, and the content management system chosen. Good to know outside IPs are cranking data quickly through the pipes.

Looking really good man.  The only thing I don’t personally like a lot is the watermark. I understand where you are coming from, but I find it distracting.  At a minimum, I’d think you could do a graphical watermark that is sort of washed out rather than a bright white Courier New font one.

Everything else looks great and it is very fast, which is critical.

    Zach

Good comment that Zach – the watermark that is.

It’s my intention to change those – to exactly what you’re suggesting. Again, it’s a “…journey begins with a first step” thing, but you’re spot on with that observation, and I couldn’t agree more.

    I appreciate the comments…

Again, if folks have questions, I’ll be happy to answer ’em (if my feeble brain is capable).

Just got my kit yesterday; I plugged in the white dongle, plugged my CompactFlash card reader into it, and plugged a card with a set of raw images in it – worked like a champ; they came up immediately, and I can choose which to d/l, and after d/l’ing ’em decide if I want to delete them or not.

    Slick.

Just a quick follow up, so you all know how that’s working.

Have found more *very* worthy additions to the stable of apps – Teamviewer being the best. It allows you to, with ZERO hassle, connect to your desktop machine from the iPad. Killer to access images that you might need to send someone (as was the case recently) when you’re on the road.

It’s not iPad specific btw – you can run it from notebooks too. I’ve had a FIERCE need for this in the past…the husband trying to explain to the wife the process of finding and exporting a image with the right settings from LR and then emailing it as an attachment is something no marriage should have to endure.

    How very interesting.

We’ve loads of ’em ’round here, and I’ve lived in several houses upon which they used to land, which always gave me a good chuckle.

I am surprised that one has ventured so far north. I wonder if it’ll stay, and also wonder if there are more about, or if this one is a solo.

I’ve read that they might be the evolutionary link between ducks and geese. Note the upright posture, much like a goose. Keep an eye for ’em in the trees – they like it up there.

in reply to: iPad – a worthy photographer’s tool? #71130

Just found another awesome use for this thing; I successfully used a free app (RDP) which lets me login remotely to my editing desktop.

Yes – I can run Lightroom remotely – or any other program I have on my desktop box, such as a browser should I want/need to access a website that requires flash, or access files that I need to work on – etc.

It’s Mocha Remote Desktop (RDP) for iPhone/iPad/iTouch — pretty easy to set up – must have one of the following to run tho:

Windows XP Pro or Vista or 7. It won’t run on Windows servers, nor on XP Home

http://www.mochasoft.dk/iphone_rdp.htm for a bit more about it.

No more $20 a month anymore with GoToMyPC when I’m on the road.
