Thank you Kendal.  I’m glad to be back!  I’d like to chase some TX fish someday!  The bass lakes around here get too crowded at times.

Do drop a note if you can make it out this way. As the book title says, “I Know a Good Place”

    Welcome back Graham.

I have spent time out there – not enough, but enough to know I’m going to spend more time there, as I’m able.

Couldn’t agree more Aaron, and largely it’ll be a generational shift.

The Silverbacks will be slow to adapt, but the 20 – 35 year old crowd will be moving very quickly towards devices that easily let them read in electronic form.

I’ve suggested we might even see a renaissance in the newspaper industry due to this; loads of the previously mentioned demo have never read the “paper” when it’s in that form – this might change that.

There’s a camera connection kit – around $29 – bloody hard to acquire as their stock is nearly always zero, but I have one on order now. It allows a direct camera connection, or an sd card read.

Given how long this thing has been out, I’m very surprised by the variety of photo-related offerings you’ll find in the app store – it’s pretty impressive.

I’m looking forward to the next year, as I expect the software offerings to become even more robust and varied.

Btw – I use Goodreader to move all my files – just put ’em up on my ftp, and then d/l ’em to the iPad from there. There are other ways, some possibly faster (ie: camera connection kit and sd card) but that seems to be working very well for me. The advantage of using Goodreader is that I’m also able to manage my files, and preview image files as well. Good app – an immediate must-buy IMO.

if you could load some limited software on the iPad id likely buy for use as a portable photo manager/limited editor. Instead will wait to see what comes out down the road.

As for Apple. iPhones, iPads etc are gadgets, they come and go.
Im now on a Mac and while it’s taking some getting used to it kicks windows butt (imo). Ive long since gotten sick of windows. Hemmed and hawwed over going mac for a long time. Don’t know why I waited so long.

    But you can John.

ugh – that’s ugly stuff there David.

Hate to hear the the QC isn’t up to par with their stuff.

That said, my iPad has (so far) functioned flawlessly (knocking self on head to simulate a knock on wood)

Truth be told, the whole Mac-religion thing has always bothered me – even when I’ve owned mac and integrated ’em into a Unix business environment. But – there is a time and place for everything, and I think now is the time for these notepad systems.

I expect more and more content in print to migrate towards an electronic medium. In fact, and article I wrote and shot for Kayak Angler is coming out this month, and will be available for the iPad. I can’t wait to show potential clients (if it’s any good that is)

    Nice review Kendal.

Exactly how good is the quality when you are viewing images on an ipad?

    Insane good.

    Really nice stuff Jay.

I’m like you, though have been adding boudoir to my repertoire, for exactly the same reason.  LOL

    Thanks Kendal!

You can view a few more at http://www.flickr.com/jaymorr  😉  I wouldn’t mind the boudoir either  😀

I’ll defer to Zach in this case – I have a set of 5 shots, but they wouldn’t be safe for work – necessarily – so should ask before posting a url.

    David,

I’m not sure about their past approaches to file management, but now, as far as I can tell, you can set up any file and directory structure you desire.  The original image files can be anywhere you want them to be, and they are not changed by the use of the Lightroom software.

    Tim

I’m with Tim – even the original allowed you to maintain your files where you wanted them.

I’m looking forward to upgrading in the next days/week or so – the noise reduction ability alone will be worth it.

    Jarrod –

Don’t know if this will help, but I shoot stills alongside a guy who shoots video for the show “The Kayak Fishing Show – with Jim Sammons” – it airs on WFN (and in fact their first dvd is about to air there too…but I digress).

Anyway, he had recently picked up a Canon body that shoots video – I think an Ti1 … and when paired with good glass, he was tremendously impressed with it. He attributes how impressed he was to the great glass that the body gets paired with, and while his Sony shoots good HD, if things worked out, he’d consider switching to shooting with still cams paired with Canon glass.

    Just my dos pesos.

I’m off to shoot with him again on Monday in fact – Mazatlan this time. A few days of chasing bass in Lake Mateos, and then back to Mazatlan for big fish outta kayaks. Should be a hoot.

I meant to add before John that you’ll find the kayak perfect for trolling. You can easily maintain a roughly 2.5 mph speed, which is a great speed to troll a lure.

I suspect you’ll do very well, but please do be careful.

    Good on ya John.

…I recall a friend of mine, who was for many years a photographer for the Dallas Morning News, relating some of his experiences, and how some of the days where he felt lowest about his craft resulted in some of his best work.

He said, “You know, what it really comes down to is you just have to be out there. You can’t get the shot unless you commit to being there.”

Good on ya for the commitment John.

I’m off to Florida next week – covering the big Jacksonville kayak fishing tournament for Kayak Angler mag – can’t wait to be “out there” and hopefully get a little of the magic myself.

    Congrats man.
