Ben CochranMemberAgree with Zach and Neal, LR is written specifically as professional software for photographers. In my opinion, it is the best professional software for professional photographers as well. PS3 will do about everything that LR does but CS3 really is more of the back-room software for both graphic designers and photographers that are preparing for conversion, alterations, design and/or print in publications or other media applications, as well as general use. Zach hit one very important nail on the head, the learning curve is very steep and extremely long.
I approached PS as I did college courses and took many courses on it, I am pretty good at it now and don’t really need anything else but it is important to mention this: LR is not an abridged version of PS as it really was written especially for the needs of professional photography.
Carter, you may be able to find the CS2 versions on other web sites or perhaps just call OnOne as you would also want to make sure that you also get all of the updates. I haven’t really checked into it but they may also have it so that the current version can operate as a stand alone application. Their software really is great!

MemberHey Zach, you might want to check out Genuine Fractals by OnOne. Best image enlargement software on the market, IMO. be a shame to limit that great shot due to small file size, I think that you would really enjoy this plugin as it fits perfectly into CS3, and is also in mac format. 400-500 % file size increases are very crisp and I have seen some up to 700% that are crystal sharp.
Not that I need to, given Ben’s obvious expertise 🙂

MemberI noticed that I lost some color and the vignette going from my program to the web. Do you guys over-do the colors on images you know you will be posting to account for the color loss? I also went from a 15 MB image to a 120 KB…I am assuming this is where the file info. was lost. So, how far does one boost the juice for pics destined for the web?

D.If the colors don’t look right then make sure you are color management is set to sRGB and not Adobe RGB or something else.

MemberCarter,
I think I may be the only one relying solely on Aperture 2.1, but based on your, and the other’s, comments, I am beginning to seriously consider LR 2.0. I was speaking w/ a pro. photg. buddy of mine, and he suggested Elements as well. Do any of y’all use this program? Or do you think LR 2.0 has the right functions, negating the need for Elements?

D.You’ll need both – or any sort of second graphic editing program that lets you burn/dodge/clone/repair/mend.
LR will spot heal/clone, but only spot heal/clone, so if you’ve large edits, you’ll need an editor.
Something to note is that LR will take any graphic editor you specify – so if you’re working with something non-Adobe (ie; Paint Shop Pro) you can use it.
LR is (imnsho) *the* tool for photographers. I use it every day, and I don’t know what I’d do without it.

MemberI’m not using LR 2.0 yet, but as i understand it, it does offer localized adjustments now beyong the clone/healing tool.

D.Don’t read too much into that.
