I am pretty sure Delta has a non stop flight into Bozeman these days. The Horn will be awesome at the end of August and like Tim said just point the boast down stream and you are fine. The Missouri will be the same for you that time of year. You should however venture WEST of the divide. You have already done the east of the divide thing quite a few times. If you are ready to get out of that bubble drive over the mountains and see what Montana is truly about!

The only thing better than one fishing buddy Jim is two! 🙂 I have found the key is to let them have their fun first and then they will listen a WHOLE lot better when you get a fish on.

1080 sort of blew my mind because the country does seem so environmentally conscience. Just goes to show you how powerful the agricultural industry is in NZ…

Corey I think your first question was answered about the rod and as to your second question, yep that was a pet goat. The guy was walking it down the main street of Blackball. His lady friend was walking three dogs and he had the goat. It was something that you don’t see everyday so I asked him if I could take his picture and he said “no problem mate”! Real nice guy.
Tim those waders are a special addition that Simms put out last fall for guides on their pro-staff. I love them. The cool thing about those browns is they were caught within a 100 yards of each other yet looked so different. I wish I had more fish pictures to share but unfortunately I don’t. My camera was in my luggage which I did not get until we were on our way out of Southland. Simon loaned us a camera of his but I was nervous taking it on the water with us. Then the one underwater shot I took of a fish with my water proof camera ended up being the last. Lesson learned to always check the battery door…

I have to say one last thing about the trip. The rod I fished the entire trip was a Sweetgrass Rod made by Sam Drukman. It was the most incredible rod I have ever fished in my life! Rods don’t always impress me and this one did. If you are in the market for a high end rod I could not recommend one of Sam’s rods enough! This may seem like a shameless plug but I assure you if you had the chance to fish one you would probably be doing the same.

David these tubes are new this year and I really liked them. We have been carrying the Sage rod tubes in the shop for the past few years and though they serve their purpose well they are quite expensive. The thing I really liked about the Simms tubes were their openings and the fact they could take on 9’6″ rod.
We will have ours in stock here in the next couple of weeks so if you are interested get in touch with Ron or I and we will get you hooked up.

Mike I love the fact you posted a picture of the misunderstood whitie! It always cracks me up to see someone be so excited to hook up, enjoy a good fight, and then be disappointed because their catch was a whitefish. It is all about the hook up to me!

I completely disagree with you Dave. I will state that like you I am a little bias though as I am on the Pro Staff of Boulder Boats.
First off these boats are like Cadilacs. They are light and very responsive. They row better then any boat I have ever rowed and I have rowed Hydes, Clackas, RO, Lavaro, and wooden driftboats along with about every raft known to man. Nothing in my opinion compares to the Boulder. And I can tell you that they are as indestructable as a driftboat can get! I have no problem taking my boat ANYWHERE a raft will go. I have hit some rocks hard at times and it barely leaves a scratch. And I can assure you that if you had any issues at all with the boat Andy at Boulder would do everything to make it right for you.
The new river taxi looks like a sweet ride to me. Very low maintenance which I really like. My Boulder has the wood frame and leg stands. I like it but I do like the idea of basically zero maintenance of the river taxi because the last thing I want to do in the off season is worry about refinishing wood in my boat.
Just my two bits and completely understand that everybody loves their boats for many reasons…mostly because they are their own boats and it takes them to places they love. 🙂

Steven I have only fished in Southern Utah once and I fished a creek called Mamouth Creek. It may be a little further North than you are looking for but it was a fun little creek to fish. I also fished the Fremont (sp?) River near Capitol Reef which is a little more central Utah and did very well there and had the whole river to myself.
I know there are some Utah boys on the board and am surprised they have not chimed in on this. They probably saw that you were bringing the bike and knew you would be consumed with all the awesome riding down there!
Little piece of advice for you. BRING YOUR OWN BEER!!! There beer is watery in Utah and sometimes VERY hard to find. No offense to the Utah boys on the board but you are light years away from Montana Micro brews. 😎
