noneMemberZach,
here’s Proteus in action:
noneMemberHmm… I always wanted to see Whitlock’s bass bug tying videos…
But you guys have NTSC system, here in Europe we use PAL system so that’s incompatible. Is it available on DVD or can it be captured on DVD?
Jay
noneMemberI never understood why the heck you would let the guide hold the (big) fish that you caught?
noneMemberNice scuplin!
Which DVD did you watch? Most of his videos are still only VHS?I met Dave at a fly fishing show (actually the dinner on the evening before the show). Very nice guy.
Jay
noneMemberWhat kinda answer are you looking for?
noneMemberI think some wind would be no problem. The G2 is a tad faster than the original G (which I didn’t like). Obviously utilising double haul will take care of some wind.
Just curious:
why would you use a #3 rod if the area you’re fishing is so windy?Jay
noneMemberMaybe not the answer you would have seen, but just to illustrate you what you might expect.
I cast both the G2 885 and the 905. The difference in feel was quite remarkable. The 885 felt much softer than the 905 which felt much more stouter or more authority if you understand what I mean. I think the 906 might feel about the same but with even more oomph than the 905.
noneMemberNice! Both the pack & Lauren!
I was wondering why you chose this pack. Looks like it does what you want to carry the stuff you need as well as easy access.
Jay
noneMemberShow us some pictures! Preferably packed the way you want to use it
Jay
noneMemberMy solution to the waterproof issue was to buy C&F Designs boxes, which are themselves waterproof. I don’t like dunking my pack but when necessary, now I can.
The small boxes from C&F aren’t waterproof are they?
I think the new mid size is water proof
Jay
noneMemberI don’t think this has to do with Scott as much as a service any of the big name rod companies would do.
But still very nice of them! 🙂
noneMemberI’ve been looking for that foam as well. Please let us know if someone finds a supplier.
Zach, you’re welcome man!
Jay
noneMemberthe verdict is still out. Some like it because it’s a lot thinner than the usual lines. The inner core line is thinner (12 lbs instead of 20 lbs).
But I’ve heard some stories about memory problems.I’ll stay with the regular lines from SA and Rio. 30 bucks aint much but it can be spent on other stuff as well.
Jay
noneMemberMaybe a used Scott G (not the new G2) on eBay?
If you prefer a new one, take a look at the Temple Fork’s Finesse series. This is a more medium actioned rod. Should be around $200.
Jay
noneMemberYou took all pictures using a tripod? Wow, that’s pretty nifty!
My verdict is still out there about color of clothing. I do think that in very woody areas a drab coor would work best rather than shocking pink etc.
Jay
noneMember2 things Zach:
* why wear a cameo shirt but wear a bright red fleece jacket?
* You might like a lanyard to put you nipper etc.? I recently made some myself.
Jay
noneMemberEveryone who has the rod or have cast it will tell his reason to like or dislike it.
The way to go is to cast them your self at your local Scott dealer and try different lengths of the same line weight. Unless you have very specific reason to look for a certain length try to feel which one suits you best.
Let us know which one you picked and WHY.
Jay
noneMemberNow you got a 5 weight for the nice stuff, get a 7 weight for the nasty conditions (larger streamers, really heavy nymphs, wind, big casts etc.)
A 6 weight won’t make that a huge difference from a 5 weight.
update:
Oops, I see you already have a7 weight? If your fishery permits, why not get a 3 weight instead for the really spooky stuff?Jay
noneMemberI bought the TomTom One.
This is the newest version from TomTom (slim design) complete with whole Europe map on a SD card! TomTom sells more maps, incl. whole USA & Canada on one SD card as well!TomTom is a Dutch company and the best selling navigation system in Holland and maybe in Europe.
What I like TomTom is the ease of use & user interface. I’ve seen others which weren’t as easy to use as this.
Take a look at: http://www.tomtom.com
noneMemberI would have kept it much simpler, elementary.
There still too much going on, quite difficult to see it in a glance. How about a stream (slightly resembling the shape of the skull) running between the horns and just one silhouette of a fly rod with a reel. And indeed just a black cirkel rather than details with white. etc.?
I think three parts are important:
* Link to cattle => horn
* fly fishing => just one, either a fly or a rod
* the link between these two => streamJust my 2cts
