This article contains some of the finest fishing advice I have ever seen and it applies to all types of fishing, not just steelhead:

“BE UNDER-EMPLOYED — The best fishing days never happen on the free weekends when your kid doesn’t have a basketball game, or during that week you penciled in for vacation back in April. Invariably, the steelhead are present and the conditions are perfect on a Wednesday when you have a big presentation at work.”

This piece of advice probably on average accounts for more fish than any other…

    Hey Zach,

I know you are a very busy man, with the equivalent of about 3 jobs and a new house etc., but I live in a town with 1 total radio station and the iPod selection is getting worn out.

    Jay,

Late September and early October is the best time to fish Colorado, IMHO.

    Jay,

There are a ton of possibilities for Colorado that fit all of the type of fishing you like.

Cameron, an old friend of mine’s dad was singled out by some losers who constantly smashed his mailbox up (everytime he put a new one up it was down in 3 days, max).

    An Ambassador huh??………..

Completely off-topic, but still worthy of note

The person guiding your fellow ambassador Hayes Wauford holds the distinction of being the first person I’ve ever seen wearing a HAD while trout fishing.

    Sigh…

As in wearing it like a sun mask or just as a bandana or something?

I have been using one for trout fishing for two years now, since I got one tarpon fishing in the keys.

I have fished that water quite a bit and in my experience, your experience is the exception, not the rule.

For really cold weather, my setup is as follows:

    1. thin wool liner socks
    2. thicker wool socks like smart wools
    3. polypro long underwear
    4. fleece pants
    5. breathable waders (patagonia)
    6. various layers of poly pro top
    7. fleece jacket/vest
    8. simms classic guide wading jacket
    9. gloves (has to be really cold)
    10. wool hat

I have fished down to 5-10 degrees in this setup and been warm.

    Great pictures Rick,

There is always a good chance of getting into chrome in the hole you show in your second pic.
