MemberAhhhh… Peter Capstick. Death in the Long Grass, Death in Silent Places, i’ve read most of them, and he is a wonderful writer. His books certainly scared the pants off me 10 years ago when i read them before i went to africa the first time.

MemberFunny you should mention this zach.. better check out the other post i just made! You are more than welcome at our deer camp anytime up in michigan! Actually, there is some really great fall steelheading to be had at that time of year too, and its only a few miles away from camp. All the hunters are in the woods, and the river is about empty.
And for those bow hunters that are out there, on my 3rd year of trying, i finally drew the coveted iowa bow tag! I am pumped to say the least. Just finalized the final food plot plantings with the famer out there, and i can’t wait for the first week of november.
I also do a bit of pheasant hunting, we usually try and make it out to South Dakota for a long weekend every year – zach you would love it compared to the put and take farms that it sounds like you hunt on.

MemberI’ve been running a maxtor external firewire drive for the last 2 years, rarely turning it off, and i haven’t had any problems with it whatsoever. I use it about the same as you, my backups run on it, and sometimes i move music or large amounts of photos on it.

MemberNice fish.

MemberI’m assuming zach is referring to posting pictures in the blog that are also being run in magazines… i’m surpised the editors have allowed it as much as they have so far!

MemberStreamer fishing certainly works at night, and i would dare say that fish seem to miss the streamers less than they do the topwater stuff, but thats just me.
Eric DeWitt
MemberThat will be fun, i keep telling myself i need to get out and see some of the other water in michigan, but with the cottage only about 5 min. from the PM, and a growing family, its hard to find the time, and hard to beat the convenience.

MemberThe only thing i just noticed today that might be nice is to have hyperlinks (the A:link code i think) in posts a different color, just so they stand out from the rest of the text a bit.

MemberWe fished from about 9 pm till 4 am, typically it seems the best time is about the first 2 hours after dark, but it all depends on conditions – amount of moonlight, how fast the water temp is dropping, etc. It typically doens’t get good until it is dark enough to where you can’t see color anymore.
As far as flies, we have gone away from the traditional deer hair mouse fly, in favor of foam gurglers with a couple rubber legs on them. Deer hair mice take a long time to tie, tying with deerhair is a pain, and they don’t float as well as the foam. At first, we were dressing up the gurglers with a bit of deerhair for an overwing, some krystal flash, and whatever else you wanted to throw on them, but this weekend the flies we were using was literally one piece of foam with and a pair of legs tied on the hook. i started with a trailer hook also, but after the first 3 fish were hooked on the front hook, i cut that off too. Now i have a lightweight (albeit still pretty wind-resistant because of the surface area of the foam) with no other dressing to soak up water that i can cast using a 6 wt line on a 4 wt rod.
If any really wants to get into it, get a glow in the dark line from Rio. They are the whip for this kinda stuff. Rio stopped making them, but made a special run for a couple of the local shops in michigan. Call these guys of your interested, they still had some last time i was in there. http://fishbaldwin.com/

MemberFWIW, a guide buddy of mine told me this weekend that he just wore through his first pair of Simms, and it didn’t take any longer than the various Orvis ones he had before.

MemberThanks for the input carter, i found a couple stores locally that have the macbook and the pro in stock, so i am going to get over there and check them out.
Eric DeWitt
