As Dave pointed out, you will not need waders for some time around here, even at Broken Bow. We have wet-waded there well into Sept. So, take that $150 you have to spend and get a good pair of boots that will last a long time and be comfortable. Then, save money over the summer for some nice, 3-layer, breathable waders.

Didymo just recently hit one of my local fisheries. However, before I was able to head north and fish it, an annual flood came in and wrecked said tailwater. Had this not have happened, I would have been freezing my boots to kill the invasives, literally throwing them in the freezer for more than 24 hours. (Just have to tell the wife it is deer and she will not touch it!)

Thanks guys, especially John. That info. is certainly helpful. The tick I pulled off last weekend was large by those standards you described, plus it had reddish-orange spots on its abdomen.

I also asked my vet today for a tick remover, but I was told they do not sell them and they simply use rat-tooth tweezers on their patients.

I do wonder, though, if a deer tick, being so small, latches on to one of us, how will we ever know? The bullseye mark two weeks later?

Seems that way Cameron. But Chad is not yet house broken, ergo I have reservations about bringing him around my mother and wife. I suppose I could always let him stay with the dogs! Chad is, as well, good to have in fish camp…just don’t know about his manner capabilities. Being a Southerner you understand; One has to be very strict about the ruffians one allows in the company of his woman-folk.

From what I know of Dusty the tick may be glad he was removed from his host.  

Sadly, I may have to concede to my Yankee brethren on this one as I am amazed the young, innocent tick did not at the least catch a buzz, if not die from alcohol poisoning, as he chose his host. And I am sure he would have been glad to part from my company were it not for the fact that my lighter robbed him of his hind set of legs.

Poor Bastard, died a lonely death under the heel of my boot in a small TX town that is not even on the map…

I love mine, hands down my favorite rod I own. If I had the money I would buy one in every weight. And I hear ya on the gold trim. I wish they would have used any other color, but with a gold Batt. LA

Thanks for the input guys, good advice here. I did have my hemos in my pack, and thought of using those to pull him out of my leg, but thought better of it as I was concerned any pressure I applied to his body, much like what Matt described, might make the critter, spew something into the wound. Great info., Matt, BTW. Makes good sense.

I asked around about lyme disease, and it is present where we live, but I am not too worried about it. But I will look into it more to learn about warning signs.

So, I guess the end result is a good pair of pliers (hemos?) or the tool Bill told of?

No need for apologies; I did not take it that way. If I had things my way, I would chose lodgings based on fishing, but I have others to consider as well. WE are trying to stay out of Breck as we heard it is quite a bit more costly than the surrounding areas. I just wanted to get some names of some places you guys have been so I can call and see what is available and if I am willing to pay their price. Thanks for your help, seriously. I have never been there, so anything y’all offer will be very helpful.

That truly is a beautiful piece of wood. Is it fly specific, or did you find it otherwise and apply it to your craft? That mat looks like a good investment as well to keep the vise from scratching the wood…Michael’s?
