That’s a nice site Matt, and some great shots there as well..
The only thing I would say is that on my screens some of the shots are a little flat.

I remember seeing somewhere about some new book on car photography from one of the big names in the trade.
I’ll have to have a fish around for the title..
I want to get it myself, lots of the negetive lighting you do with cars could be applied to all sorts of photography so it should be useful..

In new rod have a look at the new ZXL, they’re replacing the SLT and are very sweet and user friendly, the action is more medium then slow.
I’m waiting for a Rio Gold line for it, the one I tried on my 5 wt. Zed was perfect for fishing and loaded the rod well.I have the 8’6 #3 and it’s a gem, my new favorite trout rod.

I use Maxima knotless leaders on all my light rods – they’re very tough, you can drag them, nic them and generally treat them poorly and they can take it.
I like the brown Maxima and use it as tippet as well.
the 3lb is a good allround small stream tippet here (in oZ)..
When I first saw the stuff I was concerned that the brown color would put fish off, but it doesn’t seem too even on the fussy fish waters.

That looks a lot better just on black – well done.
I love the car photography in the high end Pommy car magazines like Top Gear and Car, they really put a lot into a shoot and get some great stuff – I’ve even pinched a few of their ideas for people shoots.
Car photography for advertising is on a whole new level, some of the shoots take days and cost up to half a million dollars here – and a lot are now shot in UnZud.
A gaffer at a music video I was doing stills on the other day told me about a car shoot they did where they had to make an overhead scrim that was 30 x 50 meters

Beautiful car ..
The car element of the shot looks great – nice smooth lighting and good detail, but IMHO the background takes a bit too much away from it and is too strong to make the car really stand out.
I also think there’s too much black in the forground ( not sure if that’s just the low rez for web post ? )

I like the Winston, it’s a sweet rod, but IMO it’s action would be better for a lighter rod like a 4 and in a 6

The Rio Gold most impressed me on the 10′ #5 Zed where it really sings, it’s good up close & personal or at full line – a very good match…
It’s also a great allrounder on the TCR 6 ..

I agree that a 1 (depending on the action of course ) is pretty far down the scale, you might get a better allround twig with a 2 weight in mid length (7 -8 feet ish)..
Or a short 3, they throw hoppers and larger dries pretty easy yet are still twiggy in feel.

The Sage XP 11′ #6 is a great rod for big water nymphing, I’ve used one on the Tongariro river for the last few years and it’s the best rod for the big team of flies and huge indicator used there.
With a 7 weight line this thing will lift & cast a lot of weight with no fuss.I’ve seen a couple for sale second hand here in OZ in the last couple months.

I think the SLT 9′ #4 is one of the best trout rods ever and if it wasn’t for the TCR6 I would say it was the best Sage rod I’ve ever owned or cast.
Winston also make some real sweet sticks in 4 weight, the 8′ WT is a lovely rod as well.So that’s a tough question – and my answer is now ZXL.
Just got one in 8’6 #3 and it’s a lovely rod, I can’t compare it directly to an SLT #3 because I’ve only got the 2 and 4, but what I can say is it’s VERY smooth and a very sweet rod.
Haven’t fished with it yet because my first trip of the season starts this thursday, so I’ll give everyone a full rundown when I get back.www.dsaphoto.com
