Thanks everyone! The whole trip was a blast … We got right up on some rolling fish in the pass and I was just amazed. To the point of forgetting my camera and my rod for a few seconds. To see these fish up close on the surface is unreal!

On a photo note .. I picked up a new sigma 50-150 2.8 with a 2x converter for this trip and ended up returning it. I have had good luck with sigmas in the past, but this lens was a dud. Quality was pretty good, but autofocus was spotty. The 100-400 replacement is on the way!

Steve K. : Pretty easy to setup … Basically, bring in your shot as B/W in adobe raw and push it fairly hard. Add a new layer with the color you want to tint the photo and set the layer to darken and pull it back to get the right tone. Hit google and find a nice map pic … make it a layer in PS. I think I set this one to “color burn” and then pulled back the opacity.

Zach: Thanks! That low shot of the reels is my favorite shot from the trip. ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Eric: Seeing those fish up close does make you think about putting down the fly rod, for a minute or two! ๐Ÿ˜‰ After being out in the pass and seeing it up close .. I can actually see the the appeal. We met up with the guide in the yellow shirt later in the day. The way he was “into” it, gave me a different perspective and a little insight.

I always have a hard time getting PAST south west MT. Hopefully, I can change that this year and broaden my horizons.

I really like the area around Twin Bridges and Dillon. LOTS of water to fish and float. Four Rivers has rooms in town (Twin Bridges) and Cabins on the Jefferson that they rent out. I think you’d be able to find plenty of family oriented activities in the area. I’ll second Virginia City as a cool place for your family to explore and I think there is a cave system near Ennis (its on my list of family adventures to do this year).

If you decide to stay in that area .. Give me a shout and I’ll you some directions, spots, etc

    Damn fine list.

Doug has a two man toon … Looks pretty cool. Not sure what brand, etc. Hopefully, he’ll chime in at some point.

Looks like the Outlaw XX can be setup for single or double. North Fork is local here in Ogden … So, you would have another excuse to fish in Utah… and maybe test it out on the Green on the way home ย ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Will, I couldnt agree more.. It is a stunning photo essay. Absolutely fantastic stuff that really does capture a feeling and presents a narrative.

I had not been a GSJ subscriber until I checked out the online ‘beta’ that Zach posted a while back… It totally sold me. The layout of the photo essays was superb!

“Come Alive” is right … Looking forward to seeing more of what you do with the filter!

in reply to: Screwing around with Photoshop #67626

Personally, for me photoshop is just a part of the process and a tool to help convey the emotion or feeling in the photo. Sometimes I do quite a bit and sometimes not much … I like the B&W (#4) shot.

#1 feels the best to me .. the silhouette and the angle draw me in and make me want to see the home. I’d echo the highlighted “don’t” on #2 has a negative connotation to me

Thanks guys! Love the photos Aaron and Doug! A damn fine time and indeed another just over the horizion!

Gary: Yeah .. The tigers are stocked. Couple of links #1 and #2 .

TimP: We laughed our asses off when that ‘attack goat’ came after us. It was haulin down the drive right along with the dogs. “Barking” and letting us know it meant business! I dont think it knew it was a goat!

TimS: I dig the AquaKnot. Keeps the lenses dry and has room for a few flyboxes!

I agree … Beautiful video. The underwater shots of the nymphs were fantastic. The high desert scenery looked like it could be Oregon to me.
