Nice shots John … I like the colors. I’m partial to #2.

The fly is an articulated fly by Kelly Galoup called a Sex Dungeon.  There is an excellent IA podcast that Zach did with Kelly, that talks about his development of this and other articulated flies and how he fishes them.

    Great podcast and great fly!

Loved the report Aaron! Once again you show what an amazing place the SW can be to fish. The desert and fishing.. Doesn’t get much better. Fantastic photos! 🙂

Lee: No the 50D isnt full frame. Its a crop sensor body, compatible with the EF-S lenses (10-22). I think the big debate the people have is if the advantages of going from a 40D to a 50D are worth it. I think most people are saying no. In my case .. I was going to the 50D from a much more consumer oriented body (xti) and it was a fantastic upgrade. I prob could have saved a couple bucks and picked up a 40D (maybe even used), but IMO it seemed like an ‘ok’ $$$ ratio for me to go up to the 50D.

Brian: I’ll keep an eye on this thread for your pics!

Thanks Brian .. Looking forward to seeing some of your pics. I went with the kit. My wife gets the xti and the EF 28-135 IS USM. that way I get to keep all my lenses and my wife is happy with a good all round lens.

Got my 50D and have been able to take some photos with it over the last month or so. Thought I’d post up a few samples and some opinions.

Really .. I dont see any ‘cons’ with my upgrade from the xti. Bigger solid body, burst is better, larger LCD is nice, what I really like is the cropping power. I’ll update this post with my crop stats on a couple of these pics when I get home.

Like the burst! The fish in the air shot was a tough shot to snag with my xti.

Mr. Church with the action shot!

Scott .. ‘Grats on the new lens! I’m always so pumped to play around with a new lens. I don’t know how qualified I am to critique, but I can suggest a couple of things that I like doing with that lens.

I like to get the camera on plane with the fish with just a little bit of angle (maybe just from the head of the fish). The lens itself gives so much of that cool perspective/distortion, that I try to minimize it at times.

I took a shot very similar to your #4 recently .. I like that low-in-the-grass angle with this lens.

Cool stuff of your boy … Its such a fantastic and special thing to share fly fishing with your kids.

Looking forward to seeing more of your shots with that 10-22 .. I bet you turn out some great beach fishing shots!

in reply to: Steelhead and Brown Weekend #67302

All the shots except the 2 spey rods and the head on brown streamer shot were with the 10-22.
