Admittedly, this is not fly fishing, but it is photography related, so hopefully it is cool to post here 🙂

I got out last weekend with the new 40D and did a little shooting of prickly pear cactus, which are blooming right now.  I was actually trying to come up with some pictures for a close family friend who is building a ranch house and had asked if I had any pictures of heart shaped catcus for decorating the grand daughter’s bedroom.

Below is some of what I came up with.  I thought maybe some of you might enjoy them.  Feel free to let me know if you like any in particular or not.  It helps to get feedback on what others like.

    #2 I like a lot!

The last couple are a tad dark IMHO

I used to shoot a ton of flowers back in the day….I’d give ’em to my mom for Mother’s Day, Christmas, her birthday, easter what have you but when I was doing it there were a couple things I always tried to do.

    1. pick a bright but cloudy day for diffuse light
    2. if I was out on a harsh day I’d backlight pri near everything…like your #2
    3.

Well done on some tough images:))- those flowers are very waxy and tough to hang onto

Lovely, I think the second, with the back-lit edges is a beauty, though they’re all good.

    Well shot.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

I miss the southwest very much.  After living in Arizona for 3 years, I miss the spring cactus flowers the most.  You bring back great memories, thanks.
