On the upside you’ll be “ahead of your time” the entire time you are here…. and they give you back a day when you go back…. theoretically, with enough travel, you could live forever… perhaps I have discovered the immortality that has defeated so many 😀
Also, next time, plan a little time in the north, I can tell by your posts you are someone I could enjoy showing some of my favorite spots too.

I’ve never read anything of his Simon, but do recall some interesting passages by Tony Jensen in “Trout of the Tongariro” of him guiding Stu Apte at Turangi, and yes, it does seem like he’s a real character.

Zach i have the utmost respect for your judgment and running of the board. However, I don’t think some of the folks are that off target with Pablo. Yes, everyone is deserving of respect… until they take action to lose it. There are some very well known folks here and none seem too shy about using their real name.
I have, in the spirit of this board, been fairly diplomatic on this board but do, on some other boards say exactly what i think on many occasions even though it stands to upset a few. On virtually every board on which I post I will use my real name because I have always believed if you have something to say to a man you say it to his face. On the internet the closest I can get to that is to hide behind nothing including pseudonyms or keyboards. Sometimes that antagonizes people, but there’s no secrets or surprises.
I personally believe if what you have to say is done with integrity, honesty and without malice, as much as it may upset someone… say it. But stand up and show your face when you do so.
having said that… i respect your board decisions Zach and will comply. I hope you are right Zach and Pablo has moved on. As much as he believes we are poorer without his great knowledge and celebrity I somehow doubt it.

If Sage needs to sell XPs at Cabalas, I guess thats cool for them. Whats not cool is the guy who is a long time loyal customer to a local shop that reeeeallly wants an XP, but has to buy it at the big box store.
Like any manufacturer Sage needs to sell product. All the more in tough economic times. Like any retailer Cabalas need to sell product. neither are a charity, both are very good at what they do.
The Loyal customer had six years to buy an XP, if he’s missed out now it hasn’t been by a narrow margin.

Some will notice a difference in a premium rod, some won’t. Some will drink a bottle of “Park bench” red wine, others will want an Esk Valley “The Terraces” Merlot… to each their own and neither should condemn the other.
In a retail market if there is a demand then service it. As Peter says the materials are there, the mandrels are there… no big deal to do a run for one major chain prepared to back the product. Very easy to take that product for the small number who still want it and service it in one outlet than ship one or two items to a number of shops around the country. The current range will still be there to be purchased by all.

We were out today and didn’t get a shark up… heaps of Kahawai, no Kings sighted but Chris (Visiting from Aussie) did get a nice Albacore which was a first of that species on fly on my boat. We’re going again tomorrow so who knows… some guys near us did get a 200lb Mako on conventional gear.

My experience is that mono most definately breaks down and becomes much weaker over time.
I’ve had no such issues with fluorocarbon.

Yeah I’ve abused the renzetti and it’s still going strong. The other vice it ended up in a Peak Rotary I have borrowed from a friend to play with. not a bad vice.

I smoke thirty or so cigarettes a day. I smoke when I fish and when I don’t. i smoke everywhere anywhere I am allowed to. I don’t smoke with others in the car etc, I’m not impolite about it. I used to even smoke on stage until they outlawed smoking in bars. I am about as addicted as it gets. The only time I made a serious attempt to kick it, two days into the program my next customer turned out to be the recently retired Vice president and General Council for Phillip Morris tobacco. He gave me carton of Marlboro and off we went again.
I reckon it’s time… but I really hope I get the wake up feeling you guys talk about.
It’s an insidious thing. I have seen my Granddad die from lung cancer and my father and auntie from emphayema…
I’m not worried that it’ll kill me, tobacco or not we’re all going to die…

I see the Old crow Medicne Show are playing here in Auckland New Zealand next year Zach.
I’d love to catch them but at $55.00 a ticket plus two hours travelling each way it may be out of our budget for a music show… 🙁

Well it’s not a specific imitator, more the general impressionistic stonefly which can be taken for any of the brown, black or green stones common on our freestone streams. But yep, in small sizes it would imitate Zelandoperla as you’ve shown but was tied originally with the Aucklanddobius in mind.
The rivers it does particularly well in (Rangitikei and Ngaruroro) have high populations of Onicigaster mayflies too which are a large free swimming flat-bodied insect.
My main hope is that fish simply see any fly as food. 😉
