clark reidMemberDave
I have considered getting a certification on and off for most of my guiding career. ย Basically I’m ignorant and lazy and not prone to being a joiner of anything in general.
But I can say that this FFF caster certification keeps interesting me…
What can you say to a fella who is in my boots – a professional guide, huge ego used to giving instruction but not shy about seeking betterment…basically a guy who understands the casting dynamics across the range who is mainly self-taught in personal style yet called upon day in and day out to tactifully help anglers be better casters whether they know they need it or not.
Basically what I am asking is this – what can this course do for me to make me a better guide #1 and a better angler #2?
I’m skeptical but open minded.
The joining up for a fee to be called a certified whatever has always hung me up. ย Is this a one time fee or is it something I’ll get a hook for every year?
Thanks in advance
Brad
Well I felt exactly the same as you. I’d been a fairly high [profile guide/instructor for 27 years or so before I sat my FFF CI. I don’t think sitting the test did me an ounce of good. I think that studying for it did me the world of good and financially and credibly having it has generated casting lessons I wouldn’t have got without it. While I humbly submit that my 27 years or more of teaching casting sufficient qualification for anyone in today’s “qualified” world you get more business with the cert than without. Just being a smart businessman will make you take another route than just believing others should take you at your word. Most absolutely unfortunately, the world just doesn’t work that way anymore. ๐ but absolutely, fortunately having the FFF endorsement can over-ride that!

clark reidMemberI have always thought we needed to have a TX gathering, especially since most of us are from the Metro. Hopefully the Austin, Houston, and other reps. could make it.
Maybe we could all meet and float Los Brazos de Dios or meet on the Guad.
D.
Make it at Billy Bobs and I might fly up for the gathering

clark reidMemberJust one????
When I started as a guide for Heli-SIka in the late 80’s we still did Deer recovery (Culling wild deer from choppers, there’s no predators here for them) and I used to drive a truck loaded with 15 or more carcassess to the game meat dealer… that caused a few “looks” at the lights…
Most redneck moment…??? I guess at my wedding watching my Mother, Sister and Bride do the “Tush Push” to Jerry Jeff’s “Trashy Women” would be up there… but there’s lots. I may be Kiwi but I’m as redneck as it gets. ๐ ๐

of fishing….

clark reidMemberRailroad Earth ๐ (I highly recommend if you like bluegrass/newgrass)
Yonder Mountain (older stuff)
I play the mandolin, so I love bluegrass jams.
I love Bluegrass… but I have to tell my favorite Bluegrass joke…
How many Bluegrass musicians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Three. One to do it and two to stand around and bitch that it’s electric! ๐

clark reidMemberI like those… I have some great Metz ones, but must confess to buying a bunch of them in the early 00’s so they are probably dated at least 7 years.
Those are as nice as I’ve seen recently.
