    Thanks Zach,
I have been using this knot for several years now thanks to your original video and in turn I have shown it to many others. It is stupid easy and works as good or better as any other knot I’ve tried.

    Zach,

All the above flies are great and I have to give a shout out to the hare’s ear as well. I recently started using it again on the little red and it has been killer at times. Check out this vid by Davie MacPhail it is a great tie as are all his videos. I love his accent ” touchin turns”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjy93L17uuY

    Happy tying.

    Super nice pics Zach.

I love smallies and stripes. You guys look like you are living the dream. I agree Ed Norton is better looking but I bet he can’t chuck a streamer near as good.  ;D

    Zach,

If there is one thing I have come to realize about boats. You can’t have it all in one boat. you can come close with some for say local waters but there is always another river, or body of water that suits another type of hull etc. If you want to row and love the romance of a motor less vessel then that sounds like a great place to start. You may find in a few years that a jon with a jet will work better. Or like some, you could end up with more than one.

    Zach,
I rekon it took about 40 hrs give or take. I put a few added touches that made it take a bit longer than a weekend and I’m a little OCD on details.

    Dave,

I also found it to be unstable at first and you don’t want to try standing up. Initial stability is good and secondary is all but non-existent. Only problem with building one is you don’t get to paddle it first. I have found the sweet spot and have only had one close call so far. I use the chair I made from some plans and it works great . I also made one that sits even lower but found after some practice the taller one is more comfy. I stay closer to shore and always wear my PFD. It is still fun to get out and tool around for fish and only drafts like 2 inches. In hindsight I would have made the sides a little taller and the beam a little wider in the center by adding a fourth rib. This one weighs 59 pounds is 15 feet long and I can car top easily.

    Zach,

It is an Uncle John kit. You basically get a sheet plan and some instructions as well as cypress pieces for the three ribs the stem and stern and the rest is at your discretion. I choose oak and some pine all wrapped in fiberglass and epoxy. The good people at southernpaddler.com have plenty of people there to help if you have questions. it was a blast to build and I look forward to another project like a River dory type boat for the Little Red river and the White etc. probably with a small out board to get upriver.

    Chad

all you need is a pile of wood, epoxy, fiberglass etc.

    a couple of home brews

    And a friend to help

    Those flies look great Grant!

I have found and you might as well as others suggested that the trailer hook can be problematic i.e. fouling, eye hooking fish or bleeding. I would also have to agree nearly all hook ups are front hook. I have often cut off the trailer hook while fishing or in the case of tied materials on said hook I just cut the hook point off. I now tie most of my flies with other materials for the articulated portion or modify patterns a bit.

You will surely arrive at your own conclusions and have a great time doing so.

    Good luck,

    Chad

Double that on the summer brown 54a, but I use a flat black bead and no rib just the thread palmerd with touching turns. I also have great success with the olive green not sure of the name but the last three digits on the bar code are 444. I think the key here is how the thread looks buggy and slightly frayed up close. Killer midge thread no matter what!

I can’t get with the Shiner. or any fuity beers either. One exception would have to be Buffalo Bill’s pumpkin ale.

But anything I have brewed up is always tasty. Mostly IPA’s and amber beers or stouts. Depends on the time of year.

Store bought – Dead Guy Ale from Rogue is super nice!

Love some Newcastle fo sho. in fact I was tippin one back when I saw this thread.

Gotta give props to Sierra Nevada pale ale/ Boulevard pale ale is a close second.

Chimay in a glass on tap.

Everyday beer for gettin the job done coors light! I know it’s not close to the list above but who can drink more than 4 or 5 of any of the beers above and still enjoy the flavor.

    I’ll drink to that!

Here is one of my home brews getting a proper offing.Cheers
