It seems like I reorganize my fly boxes, which boxes are used, and which flies go in each box about once a year. It is fun to mess with the flies and make sure they are in the right place from time to time.
I’ve thought of putting together specific river or destination boxes…but then I’d have the same patterns a couple of boxes…and be right back where I started with having a bunch of boxes with a bunch of the same flies…and no organiziation.
I am a big fan of the C&F boxes…
…but for warmwater or salt I like the Bugger Beasts from Cliff Outdoor Products.
Well Joel…I do get an allowence each paycheck to do with what I like…which usually involves fishing gear.
Andrew…what about fiberglass? (I know…I always like to stir that pot.) There are several fellows…even one that lives in AK that fishes fiberglass only for salmon species of all types. It is a rare thing, compared to graphite, to find a fiberglass rod broken from a fish.
Mike McFarland is about to introduce heavy weight (7-9 weight) single hand and then several spey style fiberglass rods.
The one thing I never leave home when fishing in cool to cold weather…my Filson Merino Wool Fingerless Gloves. They keep your fingers warm when the gloves are dry or wet.
A bit of good luck…and my friend, PoudreRiver, knew how I was picking up fiberglass rods here and there and gave me the heads up.
The Valdex came from ebay with a hefty snipe bid…and the Beaudex is from one of the members over on the Fiberglass Flyrodder’s site.
Joel…until Riley loses the purple collar you can’t make fun other other people’s dogs! Ha…
I am happiest on road trips, trout trips, and vacations with the wife and child.
Hadley and I took a few hours and went fishing in North Carolina a few weeks ago. Thank goodness for one trout that just had to sip that fly. Hadley could not have been more excited. For two years old…she already has a lot of interest in fish, fly rods, flies, and reels. Go figure.
