Zach…a few years ago I had the idea of painting our plain black mail box in trout colors or with a trout on each side of it…but quickly realized that surely would have been time spent only to have some drunk redneck on our dirt road to use it as batting practice.

Brett…great photos…and glad to see another father introducing this wonderful sport to their daughter. We have a two year old that is already quite interested in “feeshing”.
Suggestions for a small grip fly rod…how about a Japanese Fenwick fiberglass rod?

Postscript…the other thought would be a custom build on a blank that you like and ask the builder to do a smaller grip on it.
The other suggestion…and I do this as well…is to take a couple without flash in AUTO…and then take a couple with flash from several different angles to ensure (hopefully) that one in the bunch comes out.
Mike…I can feel where you are coming from…and have had to start taking 2-5 photos just to make sure one comes out right.
Ummm…maybe we could get Mountain Khaki Ambassdor Zach Matthews to get them to spring for a pair of pants as a photo contest prize!!!
I think I brought it up during the first t-shirt that Zach did a year or so ago…but is anyone interested in doing a “Itinerant Angler” t-shirt/fishing photo contest? Like…coolest photo fly fishing with your new t-shirt on? We could give everyone 3-6 months to come up with your best submission.

Jolyon…you’ve got to think that a 5DT has essentially two fly lines in one as far as the head portion is concerned and that is the part that takes up all the room.
I have a special Japanese taper AirFLO Ridgeline 4DT on my Japanese yellow Fenwick that I purchased this past summer. I like the line a lot. I wish I hadn’t cut it in half to fit it on a little three inch diameter reel since while in Montana I needed a full line for casting while fishing a lake that Joel took us to. Overall it is still a very cool line.
I thought that the ridges were going to be really noticeable…but as you can see in this photograph…they are hardly there.
