For Spotted  Bass I have three classes of flies–buggers, clousers and floaters–an the occasional nymph when things really slow down.  A recent purchase of a Bugger Box has all these in one now.

The C&F boxes all look very similar.

For completeness of the thread let’s not forget Rim Chung’s  RS2 (Rim’s Semblance #2).  It is my understanding that he only fishes this one fly!  There are a few guys out there who only carry one box of RS2 flies and maybe one or two other patterns like it but they truly understand how to fish it in ALL situations and their casting skills allow them to do so.  Just some food for thought.

Mike Cline…that top box looks like it has an animal pelt in it!  I half expected it to growl at me.

I was curious if anyone has any suggestions for a good tube fly box. The most that I have seen are just a plain clear tackle box.

Here are some of my boxes. As you will notice they are loaded with flies. I like being able to tackle any condition that may come up.

This is my smallie streamer box.

    My permit box.

    My bonefish box.

My Lake Michigan tribs steelhead box.

    My tarpon box.

    My popper/terrestrial box.

    My steelhead streamer box.

    My reef box.

I’ve caught myself carrying 6 fly boxes and have decided that that’s too many and I need to organize better!  Seems I have a little bit of the same stuff in each box—redundant redundancy!  I am in search of suggestions on the best way to nail this mess down to a proper and neat method and hope to carry no more boxes than necessary.  How do you folks categorize, store, section, divide your fly boxes?  Not sure, but, I think I may head toward having the boxes adjusted by size of fly OR by size of dry fly and size of Nymph/Streamer.  Or, I guess I could designate a box per river????  Hmm???

    Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like you’re just carrying way too many flies rather than suffering from a lack of organization. It’s alright not to have the perfect fly for every situation you encounter. You’re not guiding, and your paycheck isn’t dependent on being able to produce fish all day, day in and day out.

Some people are into the wading fly shop approach, and that’s cool. Just don’t think that there’s something wrong with deciding to do otherwise.

    Michel…

That is too sweet! I saw the notorious Tarpon flies on a TV show… very nice!
    Thanks for posting…

    Tube flies…

I think these tube fly boxes are good… but usually I just use Zip lock bag for the tube flies (without hook)… 😉

    Mark,

Thanks for the link. I’m going to order one after Christmas, I’m leaning towards the Wheatly as of now.

    Cameron,

I took a closer look at that those awesome midge boxes you posted on the first page.  I noticed that you don’t have any midge hook threaders.  I find the threaders to be invaluable when fishing midges which is usually in colder weather with cold fingertips.

I also enjoyed your article on midge fishing and midge fly boxes http://www.flyfishohio.com/Fly_Box_Porn_Cameron.htm.
