Halleluiah! I think I see an STS in my future. Now all I have to do is convence Brenda that I actually need 10 fly rods.
This site is probably one of the BEST examples of brilliant photography of fly tying and the instructions are superb.

I’ve seen a documentary about sharks gathering at a rookery at the same time every year, just when the young birds are learning to fly.
I know it’s probably my limited IQ, but after wading through the “endless monologue”, the arguement still seems to be based on a logical disconnect. How can the further exploitation of a diminishing resourse help to restore that resourse? Perhaps if you could provide some emperical evidence that any such campaign, in the history of man, has worked. Maybe you could start with the passenger pidgeon and the american buffalo.
I use Sharpie permanent markers and pens all the time. They work fine for adding color and stripes. They will fade over time, but not before the fly gives out anyway. I’ve never had a fish complain about the smell.
One handy little item if learned from a local rod builder is to use thread clippers instead of scissors when wrapping rods or tying flies.
I use Surflon-Micro Supreme Wire by American Wire. Its a multi strand, nylon coated wire you can actually use knots with, just like mono. Several other companies make a similar wire, Berkley is one I know of. Make sure you get multi strand wire for fly fishing. It is more flexible and turns the fly better. Any sporting goods store should have it, but you can also get it at Cabelas or Bass Pro.
I don’t know who James Prosek is, but “Elizabeth Hurley in a tub…” and two bottles of wine sounds pretty good to me (just don’t tell my wife!)
For what it’s worth, all the fish I caught were in the Toulume River, just before it goes into the meadows and in the Dana Fork. There was one “secret” creek that was supposed to hold golden trout in Sequoia National Park, but it was down to a trickle and if there were any fish, they were in some of the holes. I’m afraid the low water later in the summer will be real hard on the fish.
The bear in the picture was not very frightening.
We just got back from Yosemite, Sequoia/Kings Canyon and Tahoe. We were at an overlook in Yosemite and this guy walked up. I was behind a tree and he walked by about 15 feet from me, with Half Dome in the background. This was the second bear we saw. The other we walked up on in a back country trail. He was about 30 feet from us when we saw him, but he just raised up and ambled off before we could get the camera ready.
Water levels out there were very low for this time of year so fishing was slow. I did catch some small ones in Yosemite, but got skunked on the Truckee River.
I have a pre alox Lamson Lightspeed and I think it is a great reel. However, I bought it new for about half price when they closed out the model to bring on the Alox finish. I wouldn’t pay half price for one if it were banged up. Half price would be OK if it was in good condition.
