This is my first post to this board, and I hope it’s in the right forum. I’ve become a big fan of the Itenerant Angler podcast. It’s like a cyber-treasure for my ipod.

I have “heard” bonitos have to be released “that way”… to “wake” them up…
Maybe some people have more experience here can explain that to me…I know this group of people… I know they are respectful to fish and enviroment… no worries about the ethic issue… 😉
… The drag was set too high, your leader test is too high, or maybe it was the clouser slamming the rod on your forward cast.  Point being…unless you are trying to pull a salmon out from under a tree jam…something else should break before the rod. Â
Generally though, would you all agree with this? Â

Besides your list, there is one more thing I have to point out is the rod position Some of people put the rod, or set the rod into a dangerous/jeopardy position…said waiting for the breaking moment… ;D Â
Hmmmm… make a example… how many times you hooked into a tree or even the Earth, and you never break a rod. Because you  pointed your rod to the object and break the leader off.
My point is you can exert power to your rod from zero (point to the fish) to maximum (backward 180 degree to the fish) by change the leverage/position.I saw people fighting a tarpon with a broken rod (on video)… literally he was fighting a fish with a reel and line and he land the fish…not bad…(this is definitely no fun)….  I am not saying we should fight a fish like this. I just want to point out that we can adjust the power to the rod and fish during the fight more adaptively to prevernt some unexpected happen.  😉

Pentax, Fujifilm and (Olympus) are NOT samll companies… Switch to medium formate field they will say…”Hi! my little bothers, Nikon / Canon” ;D
Pentax 645 / Fujifilm 645 / 612 are very popular Automatic medium formate cameras for commercial photographers (I believe Pentax 645 was the first autocus medium camera…correct me If I am wrong, please). They are film, not digital though… I used both of them before and really love them… still keep the Pentax 645, a good portrait camera.
I would say,in the high resolution era nowadays (digital camera)… The borderline between 135 and 120 are much murkier… Who ever knows what they will come up with in a few year… (I already lost track of them…)
BTW, Pentax and Olympus have their full line of systems ready for pros. Some people interested in Micro photography should look up Olympus’s system… to my knowledge, they have the most completed Micro shooting system in the market.

You said you have owned 35mm camera system for  a long time. What brand is that? are they SLR? You probably know the pros/cons of “the system camera” that Richard just mentioned right?
My suggestion is exact the same with above mentioned… a system is the key. Not only it is easy find the specialized equipment in a BIG NAME, but also you can find other “cheaper line” equitment made by other small company.
I had to do that four times this past summer-it gets easier every time.

Clint, W-30 is a pretty good camera. I got mine from B&H. I think for the quality, it is a good deal!
