MemberI use U-40 cork sealer before I ever even cast a new rod. It extends the life of the cork for a very long time. It darkens it a bit, but not much. Great stuff.

MemberNot trying to be a smart ass but my perception was that they were made from paper. Then when I ripped both legs out trying to put the bottoms on, my perceptions were affirmed. ;D ;D

MemberHaven’t tried it Zach bit I’ll give it a go on some old Rio Striper lines this weekend.

MemberZach,
Great analogy! Except ‘scraping’ the plaque off a high-gloss finish on a wooden boat is a bit tricky.
Michael
Don’t scrape it. Spray a little muriatic acid on it and it will rinse off with water.
Also I’ve found that this stuff http://www.twinsrecreation.com/fs04873.html is AMAZING at getting scum stains off of fiberglass (especially white). I found it two years ago and it’s hands down the most impressive boat cleaner I’ve ever used. My white boat gets brown scum stains all along the water line. I used to have to buff it out with a buffer. Now I wipe this stuff on and wash it off with a brush and like magic the stains are gone. I have no idea how or why it works but it does. If you have a white glass boat with stains you really should try this stuff.

MemberWhat Neal said plus It’s common around here to see frogg togg’s in the trash. They just don’t hold up very well. For a high quality wading Jacket I love my Simms. For a more affordable one I’d buy Cabelas. I have two Cabelas dri plus jackets (one of them is at least 7 years old) and they both are still 100% waterproof.

MemberThanks Jay. The Snakes seem to be having a good year this year. I’ve seen several and caught a few already.
Hers a Few other crittersl.

John, tell me you did what every good photog would do and sacrificed your body to save your equipment.. Come on,, you can’t feed us details like wading with a camera, and Emergency room, and not fill us in???Mike Anderson
MemberI’ve been researching ways to make my 70-200 shoot better up close so it’ll make a better do all lens. I’m having a hard time finding a place for the 70-200 in my line up. The Damsel flies I posted earlier were shot with that lens but I just can’t get it to make tack sharp close in images like my Macro can. I’ve read that this lens has a bad tendency to back focus when you shot very close to the MFD. I’ve also read that I could put a diopter on it and make it a better macro. I’ve decided to just take along the right lens for the job. I may trade the 70-200 for a 180 macro or the 300 f4.

MemberMy first choice would be the 100 L. I own the 100 non L and it’s an awesome sharp lens but if I were just renting one I’d do the L.

Member#5 is book worthy.

MemberMuriatic acid removes scale effortlessly from fiberglass. Have no idea what it would do to fly line but it doesn’t harm most plastics.

MemberThanks for the kind words! The Blue Angels have committed for next year. Hopefully we’ll have better weather. That was

MemberJohn for Umbrellas I have 3 of these for portable use and I really like them alot so far. Pretty much a soft box but it folds down very compact and easily.
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Light-100870-41-Inch-Umbrella/dp/B002DYIWWYFor stands I just use an old tripod that didn’t work out for camera use or just one of the ultra compact light stands.
This is the tripod I’ve been using as a light stand.

MemberSame here Tim. 95% of my fishing is with shooting heads. I personally don’t like the loops that much. Especailly after you get used to a good integrated line.
For me there are four lines that I use most of the time, 250 and 350 grain Streamer Express in Sink tip and Rio 250, 350, in the intermediate (I like the thinner Rio running line on the Intermediate). I can cover just about all the places I fish with those four lines by varying the retrieve and wait time before retrieving. 250 for trout Bass etc, 350 for Bigger fish and flies or lake fishing where I need to sink down to 12′ or so. So I hardly ever need both grain weights on a single trip. I usually keep whatever weight I’m using rigged up on two rods. One sinking and one intermediate.

MemberThanks Douglas, all good info. I’ve been talking with a local about tagging along for some shoots. Lighting might be the most challenging thing about this hobby I taken on thus far. It looks so easy…. I think I can do well exposed general portraiture with out much problem. I have a light meter and it has really helped get perfectly exposed shots using shoot through umbrellas and soft boxes.
It’s when I want to get creative and or dramatic with the light that everything gets crazy. Sure is fun learning though I’ll never look at a people shot the same again. Always looking for the light now!Mike Anderson
MemberThe only model I could find today.

MemberGoing to check it out right now. Thanks Neal.

MemberIt was pretty much over when I went out. This isn’t normal weather for our area and I feel like it’s important to capture and save it.
Besides, I feel alot better out on the road then sitting helpless in my house hoping for the best. Been there done that don’t care to do it again.I talked to site member (dub) Todd Taylor of Taylor Electric in Huntsville Al last night and he and his crew were working on replacing one of the major lines that were down from an earlier tornado when debris started falling out of the sky. They took cover immediately

MemberI think its finally over.
Intimidating view looking west from my drive. Note the tree on the left missing the top…

This was the view from my drive two years and a few days ago.

Just down the street about 4 miles.

MemberNo. but they all have had bad experiences with me. I returned a KIA mini SUV with about 2 inches of red mud inside it from the Frying Pan.
Hey, it’s a rental. ;D
