MemberWith a body shape like that I would imagine alot them end up in a Sharks belly. Did it fight well?
I fished for Reds around St Simons years ago when I lived closer to it. It was a great fishery back then. I also remember walking around the Dunes and exploring that area quite a bit. Later I found out that St Simons has the largest population of Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes in the world!

MemberA few more today. Still waiting for the polarizer for the macro. Actually I went with a step up adapter so that I can use one of my three 77mm’s. I’m not sure how well it’ll work as I’ll have to forfit the hood to make it fit,, we’ll see. Thanks for that article link Will,, good stuff! I’ll be trying it out soon.

MemberUnless you ever plan to move up to a 1D or 5D I’d go with the 17-55. It’s an awesome lens. Even if you do change bodies that lens will be an easy sell.

MemberNice. Love #4.

MemberThanks guys. It was alot of fun wading the creek to catch them. Turns out wading small creeks with a 3wt and a dry/dropper combo is pretty damn cool even if the fish are small. I may have found my next fishing project too. As our well know waters get more public access and become bottle necked I’ll be looking for remote quiet water again.

MemberUpdate: Why is Canon 70-300 L-lens $1000 more? Is the “L” version worth the extra monies?
John
I suggest you look at the images in the Canon Lens Archives before you buy anything. Here is a link to the Canon archives. You can search for the lenses you want to see samples of. I gota warn you, this forum can give you a bad case of lens lust.
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=107If you do decide to get out as cheaply as possible then also consider buying used from a reputable company with a return policy. I have used UsedcamerasOnly.com and Adarama a few times for used purchases and they have treated me extremely well. AVOID EBAY! KEH, B&H, also have a used dept and are reputable. Buying used insulates you just a little bit from losing alot of money on a lens you don’t like. Also consider renting the lens first.

MemberVery Cool fish and neat video Peter. More and more I’m digging fish based on their appearance more then their size.
Mike Anderson
MemberThanks! Still working on a way to get the entire fish. Nature sure is amazing. Put a Macro up to most anything man made and you start to see the imperfections. Put it up to Mother Natures work and it just gets better.

MemberFirst attempt at this so here goes. C&C is welcome.

Learned that the cool looking reflections that looked neat through the viewfinder are nasty hot spots on the image. Arrrggg.

MemberDamn! That was a $60 neck

MemberI’ve got a 1.4 and on my 400 prime the IQ loss is barely if at all noticeable. The 70-200 takes a bigger IQ hit. There are a few things I don’t like about it though.
1 I am forced to use the center focus point with it on my 400 5.6. A lens with a larger aperture then 5.6 shouldn’t have this issue.
2 The locking mechanism to the lens is is not in a protected location and is very easily tripped leaving the lens not securely attached to the tele. I’ve had to send my 400 back to Canon after I picked my camera up out of the backpack and the lens rotated off the tele and dropped to the floor. Always make sure the lens is secure each time before you pick up the camera with a lens/tele combo on it. A Lesson I learned the hard way…

MemberThanks Will. May hit the creeks tomorrow and see what I can capture. Wading with that camera sure makes me nervous…
Mike Anderson
MemberWill I’m looking to capture the most color and detail as I can. Our perch family have some brilliant neon colors and eye’s. I’d like to do some artistic type shots that showcase these colors.
Here is one I did today. Not a perch but still very cool looking detail. Should have used the Macro for this but all I had was a 17-40.

MemberI think where the yeti will shine compared to the colman is after 15 years of heavy use the Yeti will still keep ice for a couple of days. And you will still be safe standing on it…
Mike Anderson
MemberI have a Yeti and it’s pretty awesome. I can’t say it holds ice any better then one of the 5 day colemans but it is indestructible and makes a great casting platform. They are much heavier then your standard cooler if weight is a consideration. The are also pretty expensive though mine was a gift from a friend.
I’ve also used the Engel. I have one of the 19’s that I used for a camera dry box for 4 years. It’s still 100% watertight after 4 years of use and abuse. It also makes a great cooler that will hold ice for a very long time. Finally retired it this year in favor of a pelican because my equipment outgrew the Engel.

MemberWhile you were sitting in the emergency room where you wondering if you got a lot of keepers?

MemberFished one day for a few hours and caught lots of average Trout. Spent some time at the healing field getting a few images sun night and spent Monday with my Grandfather, a WWII B17 pilot.
Few images from the healing field.
