MemberBill, I didn’t buy two. The second one was a warranty replacement for the first. The 1st one was sent back because the spool to spindle tolerances were such that the spool would knock against the frame when reeling fast. The second one was not much better. Also, the Teton drag is dramatically effected by temperature change. The reels I had were used for steelhead fishing and that means cold weather. I would leave my warm car and have to constantly adjust the drag as the reel cooled to the outside temperature and then more as the day warmed. Get back in the car to move to a new spot, or stream and it would start over again. Just too much fiddling for me. I know that there are tons of people who love their Teton reels and that is great. Maybe I got a few samples of a bad production run. More likely I am too critical and picky. Take my comments and opinions to be worth what I was paid to offer them.

MemberI was actually trying to get some bass to come up and used several different poppers. I could not believe some of the smaller ones fit em in their mouth. All of them were like little bombs exploding when they took. Very fun and exciting fishing.

MemberIt works! Zach, that is a very cool feature.

MemberI am all ready for the fall but, I am having my shoulder operated on next month and I will see how that goes. I just have to be ready to roll by Thanksgiving. I have that week off to do nothing but eat Turkey and fish. My wife was amazed that the 1st thing I said when told I needed surgery was “There goes my Steelhead season”… and here I sit turning in to a big fat carp.

MemberVery cool. I can stay logged in and can post with out copying everything first. Lookin good. How long before I don’t have to be a big fat carp anymore? 🙂

MemberThat is an awesome shot of the little hand on the rod!
Did you ever fish the Muskegon for Steelhead/Salmon? I have always wanted to take a road trip out that way in the fall.

MemberNice review. I have been all hyped on these reels since I got mine. I will be getting a few more to fill holes that are currently occupied with less than stellar examples of good gear.
The clicker is the way that it came. I read comments by the owner of the company and he said that the reason he did not put outgoing clickers on his reels was that he could not find a design that would not eventually fail. I really like a singing reel and wish this baby had a clicker, especially since it’s use is for big and fast fish.
Carter, that reel on ebay looks to be a little bit older model. When I was really researching these reels I found reports of problems with the original models. There was something with the drag plates, or maybe bearings. I don’t remember exactly what it was but, there were supposed to be problems that were addressed with newer models. Just a little heads up for ya and thanks again for doing the review.

Memberfigures, I am late with news…why in the hell would they leave it up to infect unsuspecting travelers?
steve154
MemberThere is only one choice on your list that includes fishing AND a girl. You have to go to Maui.

MemberZach, if you look at the pic of the spool closely you will see three little notches sticking out of the inside. The spool sits on the bottom star and then you rotate the top star over and in line with the bottom one. You then tighten the center knob snug and the spool is on tight as a banjo string. There are additional cutouts in the spool which lock into little nubs on the bottom star. The spool is just clamped between the two stars and it appears very secure.

You can see the notches on the bottom star that the spool cutouts slide onto

MemberCarter,
I don’t think that the older ones are any different from the new ones. The machining on my spool is different from the current super arbors and that is probably the only difference. It appears that the flagship Nautilus line is where all of the improvements have been made. The reels you are looking at are straight up draw bar and cork setups. Very few parts to bust, or wear out.
Check your messages.

MemberI bought my reel on ebay when they changed the machining on the spools. There was a guy who had bought up the old models. That was a few years ago and I don’t recall his name, or shop name. I can’t help you out with that one. Sorry.
If you get one I will be very interested to hear your opinion of it. I think you will be happy.

MemberI have an O.F. super arbor 55. Extremely nice reel with a super cork drag. I don’t believe there is a better deal out there. They are built to take some punishment. I use mine on my 8 and 9 wt rods. This reel is on my never sell list and I will acquire more of them down the road.

MemberWelcome aboard.
Do you fish for the rainbows on Kauai?
steve154
MemberThat really blows. I hope it all works out for you. Was all your gear in your checked luggage? If so, I hope the lodge has some loaner gear for you.
