That photo is deceiving ’cause I used the wide angle end of the zoom to snap the picture. The camera body (D70s) is in the 1400…..and it is a tight fit. I have to position my camera strap (it’s an Optech neopreme one…not the one shown in the photo) so the case will close properly. It’s been through some rough shit but my camera is holding up. It’s bounced around in a trailered driftboat and I even fell on it while hiking in the Beartooths this past summer.

I have both the 1400 (on the left below) and the 1450 (on the right).
As you can see…they are both pretty full. It sounds like you might need the 1450 since you didn’t mention your battery charger, extra batteries, ballhead, lens cleaning kit, remote release, external flash.
I think you’ll outgrow the 1400 pretty quickly.
Let me offer this disclaimer up front….I am not a doctor and any advice that I offer…..should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. I’m just a slow redneck fly fisherman.
With that said…………I have known guys who have played baseball a significant portion of their lives…..some into their 30’s. Tendonitis is quite prevelent with pitchers and there throwing arm (and shoulder). Some of them would pop a couple of Advil prior to pitching a game. They swear the Advil keeps down the inflamation and as a result…less pain. Try it and let me know how it goes.
If the pain persists, we’ll explore surgery as an option.

Unbeknownst to you, your husband has recently paid an inflated price for a piece-o-junk flyrod with the words “Scott SCS” inscribed on it. He is very depressed. Being a friend of his, and concerned for his well-being, I am offering to rid him of this rod and hopefully cheer him up a little. He has $50 invested. I knew the thing was big….but after watching Scott’s youtube link….that thing is HUGE! So big in fact….that I think it has very limited applications. Couple that with a price well in excess of $10,000 and I don’t see them selling a lot of them. I’m sure there will be a some folks with size envy that will buy one. I’d have to go with the Nikon 200-400mm and a TC at half the price.
Unfortunately John….I think you have been fleeced out of your hard earned money. That rod is garbage and will probably explode the first time you have a fish on. I’ll give you $100 to take it off your hands and save you some grief.

Glad to see you made it home unscathed. 🙂 We need to do that again soon. Great job on the photos. I hope to have some uploaded this afternoon. Of course it’s near sixty degrees and sunny as I type this and yesterday was cold and overcast. On second thought….the cloudy skies were probably the reason there were so many trout rising. Hopefully no bad karma is associated with the IA shirt.

I fished with a guide on the Naknek a few years ago named Mark Emery. He’s the guru when it comes to underwater videography of salmon. He does a lot of underwater stills as well. Check his website for his impressive creds. I emailed him just last week to inquire about fishing this summer. He’s filming right now for Nat Geo. I dunno if he’ll give any tips but his website is fun to look at. Maybe book a fishing trip and pick his brain. He guides out of King Salmon from June to September and Ocala FL during winter.

Click on the manufacturers and exhibitors link. Last year Riverhawk was there with some neat stuff. Also saw some big flats boats and tiny Native canoes/kayaks.
I’m with Mike on this one…..as long as there are folks that will pay 100 bones for a flyline…..we’ll keep seeing more of it. I’ll really be surprised if SA is still marketing $100 fly lines in a couple of years. I might be wrong, but I just don’t see enough customers out there to make it worthwhile.

Like John said….probably depends on the weight of your lens. I use a a Jobu Designs gimbal type mount with my manual focus Nikon 400mm/3.5 lens….otherwise a small Manfrotto ballhead serves my purposes.
The Jobu seems to be well built and has served me well. It’s not quite as expensive as a Wimberly.
