MemberMy son and I attended a small, local fishing show this morning and I picked up my first Scott fly rod. I’m hoping someone can tell me if I got a good deal or not.
The rod seems to be in never fished condition. On the blank it says Scott SCS8843 No. 97004 Demonstration Rod.

MemberI love Scott rods. They’re a joy to cast. The medium action is so nice. It seems like everything is moving towards fast action to ultra fast action. I’m not a good enough caster to handle that; I like the slower action and being able to feel the rod load and unload. This comes in handy when fishing in the moonlight. But that’s another story. 😎
Proud Owner of a 5wt Voyager and a 3wt A2 and shopping for a 9wt A2 (don’t tell my wife)
Rods are like shoes. You never can have enough and it’s a good excuse to go shopping.Congrats on the new addition to the family

Steve K.MemberUnfortunately John….I think you have been fleeced out of your hard earned money. That rod is garbage and will probably explode the first time you have a fish on. I’ll give you $100 to take it off your hands and save you some grief.

MemberDrifter,
I’ll think of your offer dearly when I’m landing my first 20″ wild fish of the year on the new Scott. 😀Does anyone know what rod this actually is? I can’t find an SCS listed anywhere on the Scott web site. Going by the photos and the hardware, I’m guessing it’s an S-3 (same reel seat, spacer and grip) but I can’t be sure, especially since I can’t find an 8’8″ rod anywhere on there specs.

Bob RigginsMemberI don’t know a lot about the rod, but it came out in the mid 1990’s and was a precurser to the Powerply (G’s).

MemberI am not sure it is a precursor to the G’s, I think the G’s date back to the late 70’s or early 80’s.

When it comes down to it, all that really matters is how it fishes.Feb 1, 2008 at 11:12 pm #22870
David AndersonMemberJohn, the SCS (if memory serves :D) were only made for a short time.
I had one of the SCS 7’9 #3’s and it was a brilliant rod – fast for a scott.
They were well made as well and not cheap.Never tried the 8’8 #4, though IMO Scott do nice stuff in the 2 – 4 weight range and the SCS shouldn’t be any exception.
I broke mine and even though it took me over 5 years to send it in (or maybe because ;)) Scott replaced it with a new S3 model (also very nice).
I think you got a real deal there.

MemberYou guys are killing me! If my wife sees this post, she’s gonna make me sell it to you, wasn’t real happy when I brought it home. She just doesn’t understand. :-/
Being the kind hearted guy I am, I just can’t stand by and see a fellow fisherman’s marriage go down the tubes.

Steve K.MemberDear John’s Wife,
Unbeknownst to you, your husband has recently paid an inflated price for a piece-o-junk flyrod with the words “Scott SCS” inscribed on it. He is very depressed. Being a friend of his, and concerned for his well-being, I am offering to rid him of this rod and hopefully cheer him up a little. He has $50 invested. I’ll send you $100 for your trouble if you ship it to me. Give him his $50 back and you pocket $50. I know…..I know….I’m foolish to do this but I’m just that kinda guy.
Send my regards to John……..Drifter
