and less dumping of dead Trout into warm water streams and ponds.

No kidding. Makes sense to me. How about turning a river like a Hiwassee into a trophy smallmouth river?

    Mike,

I live in LA(Lower Alabama), but not that far South. I live about 3.5 hours from Orange Beach. Go there a lot. Have a good buddy who just moved his practice down there and he lives within walking distance to J&M. He owns a 31′ Grady White and he just bought a bay boat, so yes, he’s an important friend. I considered moving there a year ago, but settled in the Auburn-Opelika area. I think I maybe moving to the mountains(Asheville) rather than the beach. It’s a tough choice, but I like the mountains better. I can spend some serious money when I visit J&M…..that place owns me.

    Steve,

I posted this on another board….I got a Pentax Optio WP 5MP from Wolf Camera for $119. They were closing them out and making room for the 6MP. I called a few stores in Alabama and Georgia and found one.

I have never fished for PFP fish but I have seen them on TV. I would guess that the Fly fishing Masters was shot on the Soque River or Dukes Creek or at the Brigadoon Resort. Huge fish in such small water seems kind of strange to me. Its like these game ranches in the west where you go to “hunt”.

That show was shot on a private section of Noontootla Creek. I’ve fished the public sections of Noontootla for little Brookies, had a good time. The private sections are futher on down where dog food pellet hatches come off. I agree with you, it seems like a game ranch.

You could also head south for shoal bass on the Flint.  😉

What a great river. I usually prefer Shoalies/Red Eye’s over trout most days.

I really like my Renzetti Traveler. I liked tying on a Dyna King. Can’t go wrong with either.

or the discontinued Patagonia Reinvest (always sounded like a marketing freudian slip to me).  I liked that Patagonia vest a lot for its light build and you can get them cheap now.

    Zach

Where are you seeing these for cheap? I would like to get one or that Fishpond Shooting Star. Thanks.

Depends…sometime I’ll match and sometime I’ll do something else. You can’t mess a wooly bugger up.

    MikeA,

I have owned one of those Outdoor Research hats for four years. I think they are called the Seattle Sombrero. Great hat, but IMO too warm most of the year down South. I’m looking to buy me a gas station/truck stop straw hat to wear some this summer. Usually wear a ballcap, but I’m getting older and need to be more careful.

    bd,
Seriously, my waders feel like I wearing a pair of khaki’s. Comfortable…..

I’m finding wading boots to be the problem. I have some Simms Freestones that are too small and too heavy. Any suggestions? Anybody? I scratched the Korkers off the list.

Or you can find you a deal like a discontinued Patagonia SST+ and pay little for an expensive wader.

I suggest trying on a high end wader, it’s night and day comfort compared to the low end stuff. I had a pair of Orvis Clearwaters that I thought were comfy until I started wearing my current Patagucci’s. Built in gravel guards are key. Would HIGHLY suggest buying a wader that offers built in guards.

I can send you “The Hatch”. I’m sure those guys would’nt mind. I could use Yousendit.com and do it online. Can you download a file as large as 70MB? If not I can mail it to you. Let me know.

Riptide is right, that 34007 is what you want. I usually will go in a couple of bait/tackle shops when I am down in the Gulf to see if they have any deals on hooks. They always do….the reason you can find good deals on saltwater/bass hooks from tackle shops because they are’nt designated for “fly tying”. That’s the same reason why I will peruse a craft&hobby store for material sometimes.
