If a person was limited to a very small area for tying, how much room would be needed?

You can tie flies on an area as small as a child’s school desk.

    Rusty,

You might want to consider starting out with a soft-sided travel pack until you have the room and your little boy isn’t so much of a worry. Orvis, JW Outfitters, LL Bean–several companies make systems with zip lock sleeves, pockets, bindings, tubes for organizing threads, hook boxes, etc. that are large enough to accommodate most everything you would need for several years of tying dozens and dozens of different patterns. When not in use it can be stored in a drawer or closet. Eventually you will want something portable, this way you start out with portability and something that is practical for the here and now.

I would also look at the Wiliam Joseph bag and the Fishpond bag. I like the Willie J tying bag alot.

I was just going to say that…the William Joseph fly tying/travel case is really a sharp package.

For materials storage, I use a Flambeau plastic “tool” box. It’s long enough that full capes and necks fit in it nicely, along with all the other materials I have. I have the capes stacked vertically, and the other materials organized in zip locks- rabbit strips in one, flash in another, chennile in another, etc, etc. It’s pretty portable and the lid of the box has compartments to hold those plastic boxes you can buy at Wally World for conventional lures; I use the boxes to hold thread and hooks.
