Yep, when the USMC puts their stamp of approval on something you can bet its good engineering.

    MikeA,

I have owned one of those Outdoor Research hats for four years. I think they are called the Seattle Sombrero. Great hat, but IMO too warm most of the year down South. I’m looking to buy me a gas station/truck stop straw hat to wear some this summer. Usually wear a ballcap, but I’m getting older and need to be more careful.

It may be a little funny looking, but the chilba hat made by Kavu is the most comfortable hat in the heat.

I need to find a decent wide brim too.

I saw a good looking straw Panama at Little River Outfitters last time I was down there.  It actually looked good.  There’s a guy on the Clinch who wears a modified Vietnamese rice paddy hat – looks like a wizard out there, particularly when he’s catching more fish than I am!

;D After you have a small skin cancer removed from your nose, that was caused by too much exposure to the sun; you will switch to a wide brim. I looked and looked and finally settled on the Tilley and haven’t been sorry. Also use some sun blocker. Silver Doc

I see the noggintops site was already posted…awesome site. Just to add some more unsolicited b.s., I love my Orvis no-sweat hat. They don’t make them anymore, but they are a classic looking fishing hat made out of the Silver label breathable wader material. I know that Evergreen Fly Shop in Clarksburg, WV has several in inventory right now if you are interested, I’m sure they could ship one.

Most of the time I’m ballcapping it too, but in rain or on long sunny days I prefer the no-sweat hat.

    Hey MikeA,

If you’re still looking for a hat, this one from Ex-Officio out of the Feather Craft catalog might be what you’re looking for? (The third item down)

    Mike
Did you ever make a decision on a hat?

See that striper picture where he’s not wearing one?

Nope!! And to make matters worse I lost my Loomis hat in the monsoon I encountered on Priest Sat. The wind was so bad I would have been a fool to try to drop the boat off plane for a 20$ hat.
